COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
What does it mean? Yes, what indeed does it all mean. Meaning of course is elusive and illusive. It can’t or shouldn’t be found on this bottle. Should it? Yet what if it was? Would you begin to look for pearls of wisdom or life direction on a beer label? Perhaps it’s been there all along. Since meaning is a mere illusion, perhaps we shouldn’t let it have any influence on our destiny. This particular beer refused to succumb to the illusion of meaning or allow capricious parameters to have any influence on its own fermented fate. Are we even asking the right question? Are you feeling frustrated in the emptiness? If so, that could be because someone got to this beer before you, and thus there’s a reason for that emptiness. It’s empty. And if so, perhaps there indeed is not any meaning for you here after all. Style over Substance, or Substance over the scriptures of Style? The latter, thank you very much. Twice.

bottle purchased from Lukas in Denver... pours a light black with a 1/4" tan head which eventually dissipates to nothing more than a clear lacing around the edge of the glass... a wonderful aroma filled with citrus hops and a nice Belgian spice... big aggressive hop forward mouth with a solid body filled with more citrus hops dominating the top of the mouth.... smooth chocolate sides round out the overall feel of the beer across the tongue... Bashah finishes strong with a lingering bitterness and a mix of spice, chocolate and coffee notes... a unique and lovely Black IPA.

Tap at Whole Foods. Appearance: black w. tan head. Aroma: dark fruits, prunes, caramel, chocolate. Taste: some bitter hop up front, with dark fruitiness and roasted maltiness in middle, touch of chocolate and coffee finish. Mouthfeel: oily, slick, med. carbonation. Overall: take all your thoughts of a Belgian and a black IPA and that's exactly what it is. Granted this is a 3-year-old ('09) keg just tapped and probably lost some things (like hops) but it really does all come together into a very enjoyable, complex beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared at Mikkeller Bar. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma was sickly - perhaps a bad bottle or didn’t age well. Flavour is better with roasted malt, caramel and light chocolate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

In bottle. Pours a very dark brown colour with a fair light tan head. Aroma of pine, roasty malt, dark chocolate and caramel. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Very nice with mild bitterness and lingering chocolate.

12oz bottle. Chocolate and hop aroma. Belgian yeast flavors are very tame and let the hops shine through. Hop finish lingers on for some time making this a beer well worth the $.

Pours deep black...with redish hue if you hold it up to the light. Smells like its going to be a fantastic black IPA....then alas, no hops to be found! Instead overpowered by molasses and roasted barley...with a hint of grape...very distinct and good...just not what I was expecting.

An appetising high-alpha ale. Braw-looking: stout-black body with a thick cappuccino head. The aroma is an intriguing fusion of stout and APA - cocoa powder, lychee, passionfruit, cherries, grapefruit. Odd but not awful. Slick mouthfeel that suits the style. Biting, piney hops - high alphas but not overpowering. Minty and warming. Pity about the undergraduate ramblings on the label. The beer speaks for itself. (Batch 352, BB 12/11/10)

Forgotten bottle, from 2010. Not as hoppy as when I first tried it, but pours a nice thick black with a caramel foamy head. Very roasty with a nice bitter finish.
