Bottle at Pangaea. This beer is odd. Bright yellow color, but nothing really, but a bottle of liquid peat. It is a strech to find hop traces or a backbone of anything in this beer. It is hard to believe a beer of 8% could come across like water. The paradoxes do well as there is enough backbone to go against the strong whisky flavors. It just doesn’t work here. Still worth a try for its uniqueness.

Bottle from Utobeer. Never had a whisky cask IPA. I really like the PUNK IPA this is based on, but not keen on Ardbeg or any Islay whisky. So I was interested. Gold with thin white head. Unmistakeable islay aroma. Softened slightly by hops. The IPA stuff is great, good body, tasty grapefruit hop. The TCP/peat is actually not as strong as I feared. It would still be better as a straight IPA I think. Given the fact that I gave the Paradox islay a 0.9/5 this gets more. Still, get rid of the Ardbeg and you’d have a good beer.

Bottle @ Chris_o.
[thank you, Duff]
Pours pale golden with a small, creamy white film head. Aroma is very woody, somehow boozy, weak caramel and very weak hoppiness. Okay carbonation and fine mouthfeel. Flavour is pure whiskey, lots of peitiness and wood. Not too much hoppiness though. And the powerful whiskey-flavours surely isn’t my cup o’tea.

A Mes rate: bottle from Blackfriars the day after the Royce you spilled your Paradox all over the table and haven’t noticed, would you like pint of Paradox and Storm cocktail instead? tasting.
This stuff is bonkers. Looks like whiskey with a head. Aroma is awesome New Zealand hops with Islay cask. Flavour is absolute madness. Such an assault to the tastebuds and even more so to the brain. Long peaty finish with eventual grassy hoppage. Mad as a bag of frogs.

bottle at blackriers- pours golden yellow, thin head, smells spicey, smells really solid, aardbeg, tastes pure whiskey, some ipa does remain but really well put together. "it tastes kinda goat-tee"- alice mary rose howard. apparently it tastes like goats.

Bottle at Magic_dave6’s disco dance tasting. Clear golden with a thin filmy head. Nose is MASSES of Islay, but hoppy and sweet, not bad, quite clean. Mouth is sweet hoppiness with lots of seaweed and tons of saltiness. Grassy tones. Very good.

Bottled in Blackfriers. Aroma straight away hits you with ardbeg, the salt and smoke are clear, grassy bittering hop also, as it warms the grainy sweetness becomes evident aswell and brewdog grassy cat pee comes out too. Taste is more paletable, the whisky hits you to start with along with grassy bittering hop. The finish is citrus and other fruits with ashy smoke. The carbonation actually seems less than the other beers which is a good thing.

Cask-conditioned at the Bag O’Nails, Bristol 11/2/08. Well, this was certainly unique. Deep gold colour with a slight white head. Aroma of smoked Islay peat and warming alcohol and a touch of malt sweetness. Flavour of smokey whisky, whisky and whisky with some dryness in the finish. A different experience, but half a pint was quite enough.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2008 Guilford Arms Ebinburgh... think the cask is Aardberg ... Crisp clear golden orange definte whiskey in this ... and it overpowers ... forcing its way to front ... dry hop linger with the whiskey leaveing a falvoursome coating in mouth ... this build and builds. Maybe if you enjoy whiskey you will like this... but for me . NO. Couldnt drink more than 1 inch out of the glass.
