2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Malty aroma with more than a hint of scotch. Pours a medium amber color with a one finger head. Strange that they called this one an IPA because I could not find any trace of hops whatsoever. Maybe it was an older bottle? Taste was highly unusual and difficult to describe. One thing for sure, I wouldnít call it "good". I give Brew Dog points for trying something new, but I would not recommend.

Light blonde, took the scotch out of the cask very well but the "malt beverage" couldnít hold up to the scotch. Overall it was average, and not worth drinking again.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from BQ, Milano
Aroma of smoke, tar and caramel. Clear red-brown w small white head. Flavor is smokey w lots of tar, some hops and caramel. Medium body and carbonation. Too heavy on the whiskey side for my taste - doesnít quite taste like a beer. Still quite good though.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Perhaps the most ridiculous beer ever. A burnished gold with a thin head, but who cares what it looks like, this one is all about the kick-you-in-the-balls barrel flavour... Fruity IPA mixed with massive islay earthy flavour; uncompromising, crazy, kinda disgusting at first but then intriguing and then incredible. Itís oddly brilliant, jagged at the edge and gets better as it warms. I want to give it more but it just doesnít taste as amazing as other beers, yet itís still a taste sensation!

1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 5/20
Pours golden orange with minimal head, but apparent bubbles throughout clear brew. First aroma is hops which spontaneously and easily subsides to a roasted peat aroma mixing with a subtle malt hint. Taste is pretty much what the aroma suggests. Overwhelmingly smoky peat flavor with just a bit of hops in the aftertaste. Interesting, but not for me.

So I bought this bottle when I saw it in one of my normal craft beers spots. It has so many things that I love...BrewDog brewing, strong IPA and whiskey cask aged!!! What could be better?
look:Pours a deep gold. A decent amount of head on the glass with minimal lacing.
smell:Still a little bit on the cold side, lots of citrus and smoked peat. With primarily peat! Not necessarily in a bad way... but not in a good way either. I can already tell this beer is going to be "different".
Taste: holy crap...did I just drink a fire pit? A quick flash of citrus and fruit go across the mouth being chased by a billowing smoke a peat flavor. Very interesting...again not in a bad way, but not in a good way either.
Aftertaste: the peat lingers. is followed by a slight whiskey bite to it.
overall: I am glad I tried it and got to share it with some friends. Most likely wonít buy it again.

Batch 013? Exp 02/02/10 which was the day I bought it in Texas and drank it. Low level carbonation. Nice golden look about it, but pale thin head. Very dominant smokey peaty. I like smoke and peat and creosote in whisky and even fish, but it was the only taste at work here. No sign of those punky kiwi hops... maybe it was old.

There was a good reason nobody thought of puting a strong IPA into a islay whisky cask - they imagined it might come out tasting like this. Absolutely awful. Experimentation is one thing but you need to think about whether the flavours will marry together. Possibly the worst beer Iíve tasted - they shouldn.t have sold this.
