Commercial Description:
Cask & Bottled;
A historically accurate beer based on the recipe devised on the 8th of February 2007. Recreated using the finest coloured malts which provide the complex sweet malt character which initially arouses the senses. Like a fine cheese cake the biscuit base has a smooth and creamy layer that both satisfies and entices. Culminating with a delicate fruit topping of blackcurrant and tinges of citrus to refresh the participant, complimented fully by the crisp dry bitter finish.

Okay. Nothing I thought was too great. Has a biscuity, pellet hop type of presence throughout. Very sharp bitterness on the finish.

Bottle at Chris_o’s. A golden coloured beer with restrained hops. Lots of fruity flavours.

(22.4oz bottle, Batch 002, best by 06/06/09) Small but fluffy off-white head atop hazy amber body -- very cask-like. Aroma is mild, dough/caramel. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, grapefruit/citrus, light herb. Smooth light-medium body, light acidity. A solid beer, but way overpriced, at least here in the states.

660ml Bottle (Batch 001): Aroma of hops, caramel malts, crystal malts, nectar, light toasting, and light citrus. Poured amber in color with a very small, rocky white head that lasted throughout. Hazy. Very sparkling. Ok lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of caramel, crystal malts, hops, citrus, light toasted nuts, light grapefruit, and light grass. Light to medium body. Dry texture. Soft to average carbonation.

My Bottom Line :
This balanced Amber Ale promotes caramelized cereals and sturdy leafy hops in a silky, loose mouthfeel fit for uncomplicated sessions.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A big-bubbled foam ring crowns the clear dark amber.
-That caramel sits lazily on the tongue well after the sip is gone.
-Carbonation is rather low, perhaps emulating the cherished UK cask mouthfeel?
-The hops mostly participate in the second half of the sip, procuring pleasant bitterness.

Bottle; best before 10/08/09.

(Rating #2173)

Bottled, 330ml from Bellingers Garage, Grove, Oxon. Red amber with white head. Probably pretty accurate to style, but heavily sharply malted beer, biscuity, caramel malts, some pinewood with just a hint of tangy citrus in the finish. Toasty notes throughout the beer, a style that I struggle to love, but made drinkable in this case.

Bottle. Medium sized off-white head that mostly expired, very little lacing, visible carbonation, mostly transparent and also slightly hazy, and a golden hue. The aroma was malt, caramel, sweet, mildly hoppy, and citrus. The flavor was malt, some caramel, hoppy, citrus, and a dry finish. The mouthfeel was tingly and this was a medium bodied beer. Quaffable brew, easy to drink, and while not a great beer IMO it is worthy of a try.
