Hark! A limited editon seasonal stout brewed with cocoa nibs and ginger stems.

In the true spirit of Christmas ’cheers’ we at BrewDog have taken it upon ourselves to create a Santas’s little helper for all those battling through the festive season.

Our crack team of elves, penguins and red nose raindeer have been crafting, brewing and perfecting this warming winter stout as a reward for all those driven to the brink and back in the name of Noel.

Now all you have to do is don that customary yule tide sweater and find a roaring open fire to enjoy it by.

In fact this beer is so good, we specifically advise against sharing it with any chimney intruding, night time visitors.

Oh and just remember, this BrewDog’s not for life, it’s just for Christmas.

Black color; highly carbonated, with more foam than liquid. Mild aroma of roasted malt and gingerbread. Dry mouthfeel, light body, with strong flavor of roasted malts and clear gingerbread spices. Too dry and roasted for my preference, but indeed it’s a very good blend. It would work perfectly to prepare my Stout Cake.

Bottle. It’s a nice looking stout, dark, dark brown in color, clear looking and topped by a dense finger-thick beige head. The aroma is of the spiced kind, with ginger, cloves, cardamom, prunes and raisins. Some cocoa too. Not much roasted malts to be detected, but that’s quite evident in the flavor, where the spices are much less dominating than in the flavor. Some coffee and chocolate too. It’s thin and dry on the palate, a bit low on bitterness, finishing dry, roasted and spiced, followed by a quite pleasant hoppy bitterness. Well, it’s a nice beer, and I wouldn’t mind sharing it with the white bearded man in red, but frankly, if he dropped by, I would find something better and more warming. 101109

Bottle from Brugsen. Nice head with good duration. Color is brown. Aroma and taste are dominated by a horrible spice combination, that smells decent but tastes very bad. Very disappointing.

Bottle at Chris NY Tasting 2010. Dark brown. Lasting beige. Quite a good spice aroma. Not wonderful but a cinnamon sting is ok. Fine

Bottle @ Kvickly, Odense. Pours black with a creamy fluffy head and lacings. Quite spiced in both aroma and flavor. Lots of ginger and spices and little roast. Medium bodied. Dry and short spicy end.

Bottle at home (served way too cold - Papsø temperature - se I will give it a couple of minutes......). Black - offwhite head. Spicy, light ginger, high malty, roasted and light burned malty, cocoa, light body, light notes of cloves. Ok - not too spiced.

Bottle, 4.7%. Spicy aroma, pungent christmas spice, but not the ginger they mention on the label. Almost black colour, good stable light brown head. The flavour starts off quite roasted, clean and a little bready. Then comes a clean bitterness, could be cocoa bitterness. OK drinkable beer, but the spiciness is a bit silly.

Bottled 330ml (KKK Kamppi, BB 09/2012)
Deep ruby color, steady small beige head. Aroma of cinnamon, brown cookies and toasted malts. Light-bodied, a bit watery palate. Hardmouth feel. Spices (allspice, cinnamon, ginger), light chocolate in the flavor. Quite Christmasy and light. As such, the best to drink with Xmas food.

Cask at the Euston Tap. Pours a dark, almost clear ruby-brown with a thick, beige head. Cinnamon and some cocoa malts in the nose. Lots of cinnamon and chocolate in the flavor, with some modest chalk, herb and earth bitters. Medium in body with smooth carbonation. Could do with a bit more sweetness. Finishes with yet more raw cinnamon powder and light malts. Very faint hops in the throat. Very nice beer overall.

Black with a light brown head. Aroma is first and foremost loads of ginger with roasted malt also shining through. Flavor is rather sweet and moderate bitter. The finish is dry and bitter. The ginger is waaay overdone and that is never a good thing in a beer. 171010
