Many thanks to my sister-in-law for this one. Shared with gethinbeer on his wedding day. Sticky black brown pour. The aroma is intensely sticky and smoky with a lot of salty malt character. Salty and lightly tofeeish with a lot of fairly rich sweetness and some lingering richness as well. A touch of light salt and a lot of peaty malt character.

Poured a just-transparent mahogany. Head shrank real fast. I’m tasting something fruity, smoky, and whiskey-ey with a hops punch at the end. It’s complex but tasty. The body is medium-strong.

Tydlig ekfats doft med en tydlig portion lacknafta. Mycket het och mycket fat i smaken. Inte den bästa Barley Wine, och i det store och hela ganska smaklös.

33cl, at 11.5%Vol, new exclusive Scottish brew Anno 2011, thx to Jeppe!, complex brew, malty/sweet and slightly smoked/fruity, not too heavy, balanced, clear, small head, very good brew, yet expensive!

Draft @ Copenhagen Beer Festival 2011. Pours an amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty weak smoky aroma with hints of caramel. Sweetish malty smoky caramel and dark fruit flavor. Has a sweetish malty smoky dark fruit finish.

330ml bottle. Pours a hazy dark chestnut, with a medium off-white head, which lasts well, leaving behind decent lace. The aroma is clearly very influenced by the Islay malts and the time the beer has spent in Jura casks - it smells almost exactly like Islay whisky - peat smoke, maritime aromas and iodine being the main notes, although there is a hint of toffee as well. This is no bad thing, Islay malts being among the finest whiskies in the world. Very mild hops give way almost instantly to smooth toffee, which in turn succumbs to a brief, strongly sweet, fairy floss taste. This creates a bizarre, yet strangely harmonious combination with the Islay whisky which surges into the finish, leaving behind the same lingering smokiness as a whisky of that provenance would. A peculiar beer, this one. Only Brewdog would ever think of blending toffee and whisky into a beer, and good luck to them. Their madcap brewing certainly does make the world of beer a more interesting place.

Bottled. A nut brown beer with an orangey head. The aroma has notes of phenol, burnt malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of burnt malt, caramel, alcohol, citrusy hops, and phenols, leading to a dry burnt phenolic finish. I find it flawed.

I wasn’t particularly impressed by this. Lots of Islay smoke with too little body to back it up. With a bigger body it could have been good but now it just fails in all it’s intents.

Bottle at Q-Brick. Oaky, vanilla aroma with caramel, whiskey, grassy hops. Cloudy brown with a pretty lacy head. Flavor is whiskey barrel, peat, smoke, Isley whiskey, salt, seaweed, and big, dirty hops. Very interesting. Strange but I think it works well. The big hop finishes find of balances the whiskey. Drank the whole bottle in the afternoon summer heat without tiring of it.
