Special collaboration beer with Three Floyds brewers at BrewDog. A barley wine brewed with many different malts including Laphroig whisky malt, single hopped with nelson sauvin with short bread, fudge and candy floss in the kettle.

Obviously a polarizing beer and I fall on the "love it" side. Sweet caramel and chocolate with a meaty, peat smoke essence -- comes off almost like a mole sauce which, again, tends to be a love it or hate it dish.

Typical peated laphroig whisky taste and aroma leaving no room for other taste and aroma. A bit too much for a beer. Wooden dry aftertaste.

Location/Date:Bottle split with Dave on 6/18/2013.

Appearance: Pours a dark maroon opaque.
Aroma: Aroma of caramel, light smoke.
Taste: Light bitter, caramel, but a ton of what seems to be liquid smoke(like for cooking) on the end that ruins it for me.
Palate:Medium body.

Summary: The finish on this beer, which seems like liquid smoke youíd use in cooking indoors to add smoke flavor(but only a little) overpowers this beer and makes it hard to drink. Like I wrote on untapped, "Bitch No Thanks".

OMG!!! Such a flavour. Deep rich, barley, smoke, burnt toffee. Very delicious. Strong, strong flavour. Sipping only. Great depth.

33 cl bottle @ home. Pours dark reddish amber with a some sediment and an off-white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is peat, whisky, and caramel. Flavour is peat, whiskey, roasted malt, caramel, and some warming alcohol.

Bottle from Bev 4 Less: Poured a dark amber liquid where a thick fluffy layer of foam rested on top. The nose is completely dominated by rubbing alcohol which is probably due to the whiskey barrel aging process, but there is a faint background of caramelized malts that are usually associated with a red Scotch ale in the aroma too. The initial taste is intensely bitter and tastes exactly like cocaine and I Iím not even kidding about that. The drink is so strong of alcohol that itís actually hard to drink this like a beer and has me instead sipping on it as if it were a glass of whiskey. Only after taking small sips of this beer am I allowed to drown out the taste of cocaine and pick up on some other flavors such as some sweet caramel like malt and a taste of sea salt in the aftertaste. All in all, this beer taste to much like coke and I just canít enjoy it because I keep waiting for my mouth to go numb and itís not happening.

pours a deep hazy amber, with peaty malt aromas. more peat and caramal malt with a smoky finish in the flavour. sip with caution.

Clear deep amber coloured body with a bit of a brown and ruby tint and a thinnish, fast-dying tan head. Aroma of peat, soy sauce, mushrooms, oak, alcohol, whiskey and a bit of cigars. Medium-bodied; Strong oaky and toasty flavours with a lot of peat, vanilla, cigar and even pipe tobacco and a bit of whiskey. Aftertaste not too complex and not too pleasant in flavours - too much oak and whiskey with not enough complexity. Overall, a decent beer - more of a traditional ale or even an old ale than anything interesting. Nice to sample of course, but disapointing and not really worth searching out for, especially given the price. Beer #1 of my 4000rating extravaganza (of 9 total). I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Hollingshead Deli in Orange, California on 06-December-2011 for US$11.99 sampled after Detroit beat the Anaheim Ducks in Game 7 of the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs in celebration of beating Orange County as a whole. Tasted on 5/30/13 from a capped 330mL bottle purchased at Binnyís quite a long time ago. Pours hazy dark auburn with an average off-white head that slowly recedes to an average layer of uneven lace. The nose is sweet caramel malt with with some toffee, vanilla, and a smoked peaty aroma just underlying. The flavor is the same caramel malt and toffee, with the peat, smoke, and a charred, roasty flavor. The body is full with just below average carbonation and a long super roasted and smokey, peated finish.

Batch 096 11.2 oz bottle poured into snifter glass. A - Ruby brown body with a thick collared cream colored head. Spotted lacing. S - Smoked peat fills the glass. Notes of treated oak wood, beef jerky cure, sweet bread, caramel, alcohol, and herbal hops. T - Smoked peat just dominates everything. Dry oak wood in the background. Caramel malt, vanilla, and hints of fruit are presents. The finish is smoked peat and wood with an herbal hop oil and scotch left for the aftertaste. M - Medium body with low carbonation. This is an odd beer for sure. The oak barrels and heavy peat kinda clash and create an almost artificial "ash tray" flavor. Itís more interesting than off-putting. The base barleywine isnít enough to compete with the wood and peat and seems to get lost. I appreciate the creativity of the brewers but the combined ingredients produce an unusual flavor that probably wonít catch on. Iím glad I tried it. Serving type: bottle 02-19-2012
