2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 BBB63 (5411) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - AUG 30, 201212 oz bottle and served in Bells tulip: Pours a ruddy pale brown with a lovely frothy off-white head which left very good lace upon the glassware. The aroma at first hit me with hairspray and band-aid but those esters quickly vamoosed leaving heavy wood and caramel vapours in the wake. Lemony, plum and raisin fruity notes along with a dash of peat and char. Damn it, those same medicinal and chemical notes I found at first on the nose are still hanging around the palate. This time they are not going anywhere. The taste is like a cheap scotch with a blend of a strong ale. Almost no bitterness left and that is really needed. Whatever Nelson Sauvin hops were here have long vacated the premises. That same band-aid character is even found on the mouth feel, harsh and medicinal. This beer is an utter failure on so many levels, big brew for the sake of being big. Much like Brew Dog Smokehead Stout you can go too far with the Scotch overtone... I dislike this is an understatement.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 markas101 (1668) - Sheffield, South Yorkshire, ENGLAND - MAY 17, 2013
33 cl bottle, Sheffield, UK via Beer Ritz Leeds. Amber-ruby colour. Sweet malt aroma, then gives way to a mellow smokiness of peat and oak finishing with brown sugar sweetness. Mild flavour initially, resinous hops, then the peat and smoke take over with a long whiskey infused finish. Best whiskey-beer I’ve had by far.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 johndoughty (3286) - cheslyn hay, West Midlands, ENGLAND - MAY 17, 2013
Bottle. Brown with a small head and medium body.Smokey malty flavour with a powerful impact. Very pleasant-dont understand the name though.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 HopRedHead (123) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - MAY 11, 2013
UPDATED: MAY 12, 2013 Bottle from Mane Liquor. My best advice for someone about to try this is don’t approach it as a beer. Pours a dark murky brown with creamy 3cm of head and solid lacing. Nose is oaky vanilla, smoked peat and caramel. Flavour is immediate smoky peat from the barrels, followed by a barley wine caramel and brown sugar maltiness. The after taste is where it gets interesting - it has the boozy Jura flavour and smokiness mixed with the barley wine apricot and caramel sweetness, making for a pretty complex smoked beer flavour. As my glass gets warmer it starts tasting more and more like a glass of scotch, a tobacco and dark smoked malt flavours coming out while presenting a diverse smoke complexity. I was excited to try this drop and it didn’t let me down, however it was different to what I had imagined.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 VastActiv (805) - Oulu, FINLAND - APR 30, 2013

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 JohnnyJ (3532) - San Diego, California, USA - APR 22, 2013
Bottle. Amber pour, with an off white head. Moderately peaty, iodine, caramel, a bit of dark fruit, and boozy whisky. I like islay malt, but this isn’t working very well.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 7/20 Lilja (952) - Malmö, SWEDEN - APR 13, 2013
Doftar nedmonterad radioapparat. Smaker av rökighet, whiskey, malt men alkoholen slår igenom alldeles för mycket. Tydlig beska. Inte Brewdogs bästa försök.
1.3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 2/20 shoutman (2) - Livingston, Montana, USA - APR 9, 2013 does not count
This beer smells bad and drinks worse. It is very harsh alcohol in the mouth, and the malts don’t have a chance. The barrel aging only comes through in acrid, unpleasant waves that remind one of green wood, not cured wood. It resembles a barleywine in color only.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20 Ratman197 (7622) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - APR 9, 2013
Bottle poured a hazy reddish amber with a lingering ring of ivory foam. Aromas of dirty ashtray, iodine, peat smoke and a hint of carmel. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of peat smoke, iodine and light carmel with a smooth lingering peat smoke finish. Tastes a bit better than it smells but I would never buy this beer again!
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 zimbo (328) - SCOTLAND - APR 8, 2013
Smells of smoke, peat and TCP when opened before pouring.Gorgeously tight nose going in the glass with a good glossy tan two finger head. Brown somewhat hazy colour with some orange hue. Starts slow before the density and slight sappiness of the beer shows. Some fine medical gauze in there too. Well integrated. Especially the whisky element,
Shows what BrewDog can do when they stop pounding the puppy and put their mind fully on brewing.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ansermadide (1198) - Kyle, Texas, USA - MAR 29, 2013
Dark brown in color, murky, with an off-white head. Aroma is smoky, with immediate notes of peat. It’s unique in its smokiness. It’s really neat in the mouth. Odd, but smooth and smoky with strong peat. I like it. It’s really smooth. I think I want to age mine 3-4 years. Probably 3. It has a lingering finish of alcohol and peat, with the smoke burning off pretty fast. This is a very complex, interesting beer that’s smooth, mature, and awesome - regardless of what other people think of it.
