2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
12 oz bottle and served in Bells tulip: Pours a ruddy pale brown with a lovely frothy off-white head which left very good lace upon the glassware. The aroma at first hit me with hairspray and band-aid but those esters quickly vamoosed leaving heavy wood and caramel vapours in the wake. Lemony, plum and raisin fruity notes along with a dash of peat and char. Damn it, those same medicinal and chemical notes I found at first on the nose are still hanging around the palate. This time they are not going anywhere. The taste is like a cheap scotch with a blend of a strong ale. Almost no bitterness left and that is really needed. Whatever Nelson Sauvin hops were here have long vacated the premises. That same band-aid character is even found on the mouth feel, harsh and medicinal. This beer is an utter failure on so many levels, big brew for the sake of being big. Much like Brew Dog Smokehead Stout you can go too far with the Scotch overtone... I dislike this is an understatement.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Dark brown body, small white head, low carbonation. Aroma of caramel, light peated malt, red fruit and alcohol. Taste is again light smokye with herbs, caramel and a slightly acidic finish. Ends with a boozy alcohol taste. A nice beer for sharing in smaller glasses.

From the old notes, so this is not a full rating more just a mark to myself that I have tried this one. About the beer: at the time thought it was decent, but not great.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle - thanks barn0216! Pour is clear reddish chestnut, quite beautiful actually, small tan head that dissipates with some lacing. Aroma is very malty, bread, biscuit, dark sugars, caramel, toffee, peat, smoke. Interestingly, while the peaty scotch notes are an accent in the aroma, they take over the show in the mouth - smoky peaty scotch, lightly sweet, not much bitterness. The problem is that it is so one dimensional that in the end you are left with the feeling that you just drank a watered down glass of scotch. Not bad by any means, but not really satisfying as a beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nice reddish amber color, clear, good foam. Malty aroma, raisins, plus a little peat. Flavor on the other hand skews toward scotch. Overwhelms the traditional beer character, ends up as a watered down scotch. Interesting but i can’t say it is particularly great.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Aroma first shows large malt character with distinct barrel aged woody smell finish.
Appearance is it’s best quality with deep amber-brown color expected for style. Clean off-white / beige head and some retention over time.
Initial taste is malt rich but fleeting, quickly changing into sharp acidic bitterness.
The taste finish lingers and becomes the overriding aftertaste which stings on the tongue and roof of mouth. This taste does mellow, somewhat, with warming.
Label rather fitting for post Day of the Dead beer and now I hear my master calling me to finish this...

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
330 ml bottle. Brown amber with orange head. Aroma of smoke, peat, caramel and alcohol. Taste is of tar, peat, soot, salmiac, whisky and lots of alcohol. Feels more like whisky than beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
bottle @ home.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Brown (dark amber) colour with a beige head, medium formation and good duration. Aroma is malty, alcoholic, brown sugar with notes of smoke and peat. Flavor is slightly sweet, notes of wood, caramel, malts, toffee and brown sugar. The final is light bittery, good compensated with sweet traces. Rounded final with notes of wood and bourbon.
