@DØE Århus Syd: Scary strong beer which surprisingly fits well. Tastes lovely but not of the barrel.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
It is not the best Stout I have tried but probably the strongest one... That is probably also the whole thing, it must have been more important to make a beer with 18.2 percent alcohol than great taste. It tastes a bit like cold coffe if you would have drunken it from a cup of wood. Nice color of the beer, black as night and cool label but I won’t buy this again.

One of my favorites, poors black. Sweet and a little boozy, which I like. Extremely smooth beer, nothing like it.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Jet black pour with a hint of cola and little to no head,
Whiskey, oak, licorice and strong alcoholic spirit burn to the nose. Cocoa and ash hint at the bitterness.
Very sweet to start, licorice, coca cola, drambuie liquor, sweetness definitely dominates. A nice woody edge and some grapefruit acid to help cut through the sweetness.
The finish is mostly alcoholic, a little burnt malt, but mostly drinks like a nice whiskey based liquor.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
dark brown colour, some creamy brown head; aroma of coffee and alcohol...too much alcohol which does not allow to feel anything else; taste of roasted coffee, herbal liqueur, syrupy sweetness and spicy alcohol; roasted bitter and spicy alcoholic aftertaste - I think it would be much better with a bit less alcohol...this 18% has much more cons than pros...

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle. This one begs the question, "Should an Imperial Stout, thick as molasses, barrel aged, and raised to such an abv automatically be rated highly?". I don’t know, all I can do is rate this against other Imperial Stouts. Pours jet black, thick, small tan head that dissipates quickly, huge cherry and rum aroma. Taste is nearly unbearably sweet, whether this comes from the cherry additions or the barrel aging I can’t say. The abv is ever-present but strangely does nothing to combat the sticky sweetness. I can’t say that I get the hop additions as well. I don’t find this to be enjoyable, a la World Wide Stout that is also 18%, I find this to be annoying, cloying, sickly sweet, and containing additions that take away from what could have been a very enjoyable Imperial Stout. I applaud the effort to make something outside the realm of normality, but in this case it is a failure.
