3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
11.2 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Let’s just start by saying Wow... poured cola like black, nice brown tan head an a lot of lacing. Aroma definitely oak and booze and quite strong some malts too (but very slightly). Taste is however very sweet and nicely balanced, roasted malts, very complex and definitely a sipper but very nice over all, this one is quite enjoyable.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Oak. My first impression upon cracking the cap of this five year-old Imperial Stout is the deep, rich tones of oak. Vanilla; tart, over-ripened fruits, and rich chocolates are all abundant as I pour the brew into my favorite snifter. I watch the beer cascade into the glass, the ruby-nut brown liquid is only visible for half and inch before the density of the color overtakes the light and smothers the color to almost midnight. A khaki head starts large, but dissipates to a seething rings around the inside of the glass, a single islet swirling slowly in the center of the beer.
A single drop escapes the pour and I can’t allow it to free itself from the neck of the bottle entirely, so I catch it with my tongue. As rich as a liqueur, even a drop is powerful. I sip gently at the rim, cautious but excited at the taste of this brew. Given to me by a friend, this has been carefully aged for five long years, and I am the recipient of such a delicious gift. I expect a raging lion; rather, the taste is smooth and only slightly ferocious; surprising, considering the ABV and the dragon-esque presence of the aroma. With each tip of the glass, I pull harder...deeper, eventually filling my mouth with the heady brew, savoring the viscous nature of the body and delighting in the slight sting on my gums and the edges of my lips. The cranberries are obtainable through the oak, the chocolates, and I am relishing the differences between the olfactory exploration and the flavor profile. Although I can feel the warmth of the alcohol flooding my body, the booze is difficult to decipher in either the aroma or the taste of this excellent beer.
The finish is short and easy, welcoming...dangerous at 18.2%. The oak lingers...delicious. I have never had this fresh, and I’m not sure I would try it again without some age.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, 330 ml from Svijet Piva. Shared with Miro. Pours black, small brown head. Oily. Roasted malts, chocolate, licorice, wood, dried fruit notes. Sweet. Alcohol is present, unfortunately more than I’d like. Medium+ bodied. Interesting, but expected and hoped it would be better.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Batch 209. 0,33l.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Tasted as both 18,2% and 16,5% ABV. Black. Aroma is alcohol, roasted malt, chocolate, some raisins, soy. Taste is really awesome. Pretty much same as the nose, but the cranberries add a depth to it which I really enjoy. A sweet, light bitter taste. Finish lasts a long time and the cranberries are present at all time. The lower ABV in the second version helped it to become more balanced.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
330ml bottle. Black colour with a three finger brown/orange head. Aroma of dark fruit, plum, malt, oak, very boozy, vinous. Taste is very sweet and sugary, dark/dried fruit, bit of dark chocolate lots of boozem kind of Christmassy. Sticky, very soft carbonation, sweet sugary alcoholic finish. Hmm.. it’s actually surprisingly nice but it’s something for a one off special occasion I think.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from 330mL bottle. Dark brown-ish black with tan head. Roast malt and dried fruits with some mild wood and chocolate notes, mild alcohol kick. Pretty nice, but lacks a little bit of depth. Medium body.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Like drinking brandy! Pours oily black with a reluctant tan head. Was hoping for more aroma. Sweet on first taste but not malt sweet - is it the cranberries? Chocolate and dried fruit/christmas pudding flavours and some date. Some coffee and roast malt late in the piece and the finish finally reveals the epic alcohol content with a warm glowing sunset.

2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20
Batch 2, 18.2% ABV
At just cellar temperature and into a snifter. Black as midnight with a short-lived lather of tannish cream. Highly vinous, fortified wine and plum grappa dominated nose; boozy and spicy, medicinal slightly dank and dirty. Hints at fell, rotting and fermenting fruit. Whoa, wow, what? It is harsh on the palate; sickly sweet like unfermented wort. Astringent and puckering in the back with a hot finish. Viscous, big body is sticky, gammy and cloying. Finish is amazingly short. Fruit sugars atop tawny port notes. Lightly woody with a strong hint of rancid butter and vanilla cream. Something burnt builds but in no way does it compliment. I could hardly get this one down. Nothing worked. The hype does not fit. Harsh and ill-defined. Disappointing! (33cL, BB 21/12/21, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)
