Bottle 330ml. Full marks. Aromas of chocolate, vanilla, herbs, and alcohol. Taste is sweet, with bitter notes. Palate is syrupy, and full bodied. Dark brown, with a frothy white head.
4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 pastradul (43) - California, USA - JUL 9, 2011
i have had this on draft once before. and had for a second time at Stone Brewery this past weekend!
Pours a deep black, with a slight red tint to it when in the light.
Smell: of heavy malt, cranberries and alcohol
mouthfeel: like crinking candy syrup. So think and heavy. Pretty much exactly what you would expect it to feel like for an 18% Stout.
Taste: initial heavy malt that quickly turns into sweet cranberry covering the mouth followed by a strong alcohol warmth!
overall: This is an amazing beer. I have two bottle sitting in my "cellar" right now, The best before date is december 2019! I don’t know how long I will sit on them... but is going to be a while!

One of the best Imperial Stouts available, pure rich velvet roast flavours. Magic brew, well worth the price and delivery costs. Special occasion indulgence! Big cheers to the Scottish chaps

Bottle thanks to james at home in the "oerbier"snifter. Aroma is bitter chocolate, cherry syrup jam, drying peppery alcohol, the spice is subtle. Its soo subklte and amazing. Taste is utterly outstanding. you initially get this swet chocolate black malt, then this massive sweetness, then the swallow gives you the spice, cinnamin, strawberry, tart caspberry, cardimon, black pepper, my god it lasts. Im utterly overwhelmed, the carbonation is soft and perfect. My god this is such a good beer. I rarely drink a whole beer over 8% and this is more than double that. Mind blowing.

Flavor had a werry complex mouth feeling who comes in a "military following order: Berry, chcolate, coffee, vanilla, alcy, portviny, and ends with a big long fruity/bitter finsh. Wow! What a beer this is, and I think it will be moore complex with, some years aging. Werry nice!!

This is a beautiful beer. The aroma is milk chocoilate, berries, fruit. Very nice. The appearance is a deep black, tan head. The flavor is amazinfg, creamy milk chocolate, berries, booze. The finish is light hops, and a beautiful boozy warming in the throat. Medium body, slightly less thick than expected. A really great achievement.

Bottle. 12 oz. Split with and courtesy of JRedmond. Pours a deep, cola black with a similar, fizzy cola-beige head. Aroma is insanely agressive; immediate notes of chocolate, roast coffee beans, oat, milk, slowly turning into raisins, figs, cranberries, yeast and sweet malts. Body is full, rich, and a bit chewy. Palate is velvety smooth. Packs a powerful, boozey punch in the incredible, insanely long lasting finish. Excellent, uniquely crafted Imperial stout. Highly recommended for those who enjoy both solid Imperial stouts and more experimental/envelope-pushing brews.

An intensely sweet sugar aroma. Very strong. Looks great. First sip is very sweet and very rich. The finish isn’t as heavy though, which is nice. While knowing it’s strong, this is smoother to drink than Goose Island’s behemoth stout. Too bad this is so pricy. Definitely could age for awhile too.

Draught The Rake Borough Market. Pretty damn dark with a small beige head. I imagine that with a larger sample than the third pint which The Rake was allowing that the head would have been more impressive but c’est la vie. It must be far easier to brew a beast of a beer like this than it is to brew Edge which I drank earlier in the session, but with beasts come massive mistakes and car crashes. This ain’t no car crash though; it’s a sublimely smooth ride of a beer which really does take you on a journey. Everything about it is delicious. The fruitiness; the depth; the coziness of the leather armchair from that dusty library that you can smell together with the aged bound books. Lots of silt from the coal fire. The winter of discontent. They are all there. Licorice, spice, lots of wooomph and warmness. Categorically no alcohol burn at all. Mouth filling and heart filling. Boozy but bootiful. Considering my head wasn’t in the right place due to worrying about my Dad 500 miles away in a Doctor’s surgery suffering with the flu, this beer somehow seemed to be the right thing to drink. £6 well spent for the experience of it all.
