Intergalactic Fantastic Oak Aged Stout
The irony of existentialism, the parody of being and the inherent contradictions of post-modernism, all so delicately conveyed by the blocky, pixelated arcade action have all been painstakingly recreated in this bottles contents.

This imperial stout is brewed with copious amounts of speciality malts, jasmine and cranberries. After fermentation we then dry-hop this killer stout with a bucketload of our favourite hops before carefully ageing the beer on French toasted oak chips.

It is all about moderation. Everything in moderation, including moderation itself. What logically follows is that you must, from time, have excess. This beer is for those times.

Dark red beer. The aroma is hoppy and spicy the flavor is a bit flowerly and it also full of alcohol.

Draft. Midnight black pour, bit of a ruby tinge appears if you like just right. No real head on my pour but there is a thin tan residue around the edge. Almost a sickly sweet aroma, brown sugar molasses. Body is syrupy. Taste is sweet and fruity. Great dessert. Oh and the alcohol is just all kinds of strong from start to finish.

The colour is beautiful, a very nice raspberry nose but it is waaaay too sweet. Of course the sugar is added to balance the heaviness of the beer, it is a nice example of a "funny" beer. Also quite expensive for what it is...

(330ml bottle from Systembolaget) Pours pitch black with a small dark tan head that fades to a ring with a little lace. Aroma has a sweet core of chocolate-dipped strawberry, molasses, there some roast but is fairly light and not overwhelming. A bit of oaky leather, a bit earthy, and slight char too. On the palate, quite sweet with a strong core of strawberry and raspberry and currants, with just a bit of a tart edge that might betray the cranberry. Dark malts too, a little chocolaty with a moderate but present burnt edge, an earthy tobacco leaf note. Gets a bit more bitter in the finish, mostly roast I think and a bit of hops. Slight floral character and more sweet red fruit/berries, ruby port style. Obviously lots of alcohol in the finish, matching the super high ABV. Aftertaste has booze heat, slightly tart berries, light burnt notes. Mouthfeel is quite oily and a touch syrupy lingering on the tongue, but not as thick as expected, very soft carb. Such a rich beer in most aspects that I kind of wish I was splitting the bottle, but it is quite sippable and not overly aggressive. Quite like a port meets a stout, which I wasn’t really expecting. Did not get much oak, but am not too bothered!

Draught at BrewDog Camden on 4 Mar 2012. Poured a really dark ruby, near black, with a dense tan head. Dark chocolate in the aroma, with liquorice, peat and wafts of booze. Thick, resinous mouthfeel. Port in the flavour, with burnt malt, toffee, peal and cinnamon. Finish was dark rum, vanilla pods, dark fruit and ash.

From the bottle. Pours very dark with little to no head. Definite smell of the barrel aging. Big beer with wonderful taste that unfolds as it warms.

Black color with a medium, dark brown head. Smells of dried fruits and licorice. Medium sweet, alcohol spicy, fruity, light licorice taste. In my opinion a very good drinkable beer.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet’s BU. Pours very dark brown. Hints of a brown to grey head, which barely covers half the surface. Alcohol, leather, tobacco and wood nose. Some red fruit. Thick and very, very oily body. Could almost eat it with a spoon. Low carbonation, but the little carbonation that is there, is tingly enough to keep the beer from appearing flat. Warming alcohol. Dark chocolate, red fruit, wood, alcohol flavour. Complex. Bitter. Some hidden sweetness.
