3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 tiong (2297) - Espoo, FINLAND - JUN 7, 2013
330ml bottle @ Pikkulintu, Helsinki
Batch 001 (or 061?), BBE 31/11/09
Pours pitch black with a tiny bubbly brown head. Aroma of sweet roasty malts, dark chocolate, cocoa, wood, ash and oaky notes. Taste is sweetish, roasty, heavy and a bit oxidized with notes of dark chocolate, wood and oak. Finish is sweet, sticky and caramely with notes of oak, dark chocolate and some aged notes. Okay, but feels like it’s already past it’s prime.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Beer3000 (3765) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - MAY 4, 2013
330 ml bottle sampled in 2011. Black body with a small and fast disappearing brown head. Aroma has dark malt, coffee and dark chocolate. Flavor is sweet, dark malt, coffee, chocolate, nice bitterness and warming alcohol. Fine body and long aftertaste. A bit rough and sweet, but nice and a lot smoother than Tokyo*
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Bamsen78 (1043) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - APR 27, 2013
UPDATED: APR 29, 2013 Bottle. Pours cloudy dark brown with small tan head. Clear aroma of malt with pronounced caramellish and boozy notes. Sugary flavour, enriched by scarse caramel notes. Excessivley sweety, amd yet unable to erase the boozy feeling. An astounding defeat for BrewDog. I’m sorry. Go back to the basics.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Doodler (302) - Denver, Colorado, USA - APR 1, 2013
Bottle from the cellar. Dark brownish black body with a minimal tan head. Nose of cherries, apple brandy and dark malts. The flavor is filled with brown sugar and alcohol, tingly bubbles of caramel and plums. Finishes wih an apple brandy & chocolate syrup combo. Wow. Not like the 18 percenter but still very tasty stuff....

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 neuromatt (858) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 23, 2013
330 mL bottle courtesy of Chris served in a stem glass alongside Black Tokyo Horizon and its other constituent beers. Pours black with a small tan head that fades to a thin remnant and leaves a trace amount of fine lace. The nose has big, syrupy molasses with alcohol, herbs, a touch of anise and some hops. The flavour is huge sweet brown sugar and honey with cranberry, a touch of oak and some herbs. The finish is long, hugely sweet with a touch of pepper. On the palate, it is full in body with a smooth, syrupy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a great herbal-spicy-roasty imperial stout. It is very smooth and well constructed, but a bit too sweet for my taste. 2013-01-25

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Vells (295) - LATVIA - JAN 28, 2013
Dark ruby red, almost black with thin beige head.
Aroma.. loads of roasted malts, coffee, some sweet-sour fruitiness, nicely hopped, warming alcohol, oaky, bit smoked.
Sweet with tones of sourness with bitter dry finish. Complex and interesting brew, but most important - very tasty.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Thisis12ptfont (646) - Los Angeles, CA, California, USA - JAN 18, 2013
Tokyo brings a massive wooded/oak aroma to the nose. It is black with a brown tint and a subtle rim of foam. The taste is massively complex with a strong caramelized sugar overtone. There are tons of complex flavors including oak, maple, burnt caramel, rasperry and belgian candi sugar. Overall, this beer is unbelievably complex, I can’t even put my finger on all the flavors. It is very sugary and caramelized, and you would never imagine there is 18% alcohol. This is a delicious beer boasting tons of sweet flavors. I’d give this an A+ rating.
