Another great beer thanks to Craig. Pours a dark color, basically black with a small white head. The aroma is sweet rich dark fruit, some berries, toffee, heavy coffee. The flavor was great; milky, sweet berries and dark fruit, some vanilla and rich coffee. Wonderful. A very drinkable brew. Much better than the * version in my opinion.

Alcohol and licorice dominate the aroma. Black with reddish hues. Sweet with tar finish. Smoke malt and tar linger. Big beer.

Impenetrable black with tan foam. Persistent, micro fine carbonation. An astonishing nose. Abundant prune, coffee, date, mixed peel, curry powder, spice, polished boards, malt, bacon fat. The flavour profile of this beer is simply astounding. All the flavours offered by the nose, plus an awful lot more, wrapped in an obese, yet glossy texture. It’s a simply mind-bogglingly good product. Extraordinary length, depth and persistence. Probably the best beer in the history of beer.

Started off chocolate and slightly smoky ending with a light sweetness and strong alcohol flavor.

A: Pours pitch black and flat as a pancake. Zero when it comes to a head.
S: As it warms it opens up quite a bit. Nice milky sweet chocolate. Hints of roasted malt, and a dash of coffee. Smells pretty good.
T: Rather blah to be honest. Molasses mainly with hints of asphalt. Hints of roast, but none of the chocolate I picked up in the nose.
M: No carbonation but enough about that. Not real thick for a big brew.
D: Not really. Was not a big fan of this one.

Tap at Hamilton’s Tavern in San Diego. Pours very dark brown/black with a few tan bubbles. Aroma of really dark toasted/burnt malt with a hint of alcohol. Medium plus body with sharpish carbonation. It’s mildly sweet with a touch of heat. It’s very smooth burnt malt. Texture and flavor suggest barrel aged. A genuine sipper. Shared with a couple of guys at the bar. They were impressed. So was I.

11.2oz bottle courtesy of madmitch76. thanks, ken! pours a very dal brown, damn near black, with a very thin ring of bubbles around the edge leaving a tight ring of lace. aroma is great with big notes of roasted malts, smoke, and chocolate with a solid, herbal, hop presence and hints of soy, sweet oak, and dark fruits. flavor is delicious as well with bitter, dark chocolate and smokey, burnt malts up front backed by piney, earthy hops, caramel, and a slight hint of dried cranberry with a woody, charred, coffee infused finish. palate is medium bodied and maybe just a touch thin for a big beer with light carbonation and no trace of booze. overall, a very good impy than begs for a bigger body.

(Old BA rate - bottle) Pours with virtually no head whatsoever, even though I went for an increasingly vigorous pour. Only a few tiny light brown bubbles were the result. Viscous looking black liquid; with some noticeable specks of sediment in the bottom.
Dark chocolate in the aroma; some raisiny-like sweetness; light roasted malt in the aroma; faint hint of coffee. Good but nothing too overwhelming in the aroma; if anything it’s quite balanced. Taste really mirrors the aroma in this case; sweetness out in front; light raisins/prunes; light roasted malt; little earthy; didn’t pick out the alcohol. Medium to thicker MF; very soft carbonation that’s almost not to be found. Not a bad sipping brew at all, and actually it’s well-balanced in terms of the flavors. Not as ’in your face’ I was expecting it to be. Nice brew.

Served on draft at Memphis Taproom.
Pours pitch black and completely opaque with very faint dark brown edges and a one finger frothy tan head that slowly fades into a lasting cap. The glass is left coated with chunks and rings of lacing.
Slightly roasted malt aroma wiu hints of dark chocolate, coffee bean, dark fruit and sweet alcohol. Very boozy with hints if burnt toast and dark malts in the nose. Very faint spice but the aromanis dkinated by sweet booze.
Medium bodied but on the thinner side with a huge sweet boozy presence that overpowers the slightly roasted dark malts. Hints of peppery spice, chocolate, coffee bean and toffee. Possibly some dark fruit but everything is very hot and boozy with lots of warmth in the finish. As the beer warms the other characteristics start to come out but overall this beer is too hot and one dimensional for me.
