The unsung heroes, the foot soldiers of the revolution. We owe a huge debt to the billions of tiny yeast cells that work tirelessly to ferment sugars into alcohol and CO2. But yeast isn’t just here for the grunt work. Yeast has the power to change the flavour, aroma and complexion of your beer in an instant. This series is designed to showcase the impact different yeasts have on the same base beer.
This series of 4 beers gives the limelight to four totally different yeast strains: Belgian Trappist, Pilsen Lager, American Ale and Bavarian Weizen. All 4 beers have been brewed to the same ABV using a blend of Centennial and Amarillo hops and a backbone of Pale Ale, Munich and Cara Malts. Malts: Maris Otter, Crystal Malt, Caramalt
Hops: Centennial, Amarillo
Twist: Each beer is identical except for the different yeast used to ferment the beers creating 4 radically different beers from the same starting point

Bottle at home in London - think I got this one from an online shop. Best By 26/09/2014. So, this one is vintage. Pours clear gold with a frothy white head that settles into a filmy lace. Suggestions of oxidation in the nose, some caramel, berries, hints of cardboard, bread, grains. Medium to heavy sweet flavour with rich bready malts and caramel, some toasted grains, light bitter grain husk, hay, tangerine, orange peel. Medium bodied with average carbonation and oily texture. Sugary finish, with continuing rich and bready malts, some lightly gooey caramel, ripening berries, touches of citrus, husky grains, lightly toasted cereal. Overall, it’s not bad. The aging has given it a novel layer. Pretty drinkable stuff.

(Bottle) Amber colour, slightly hazy, with frothy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, apricots, orange peel and hints of spicy yeast. Malty, fruity taste with apricots, orange peel, caramel, slightly spicy/earthy hints of yeast and a balanced citric bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. A bit restrained and lacking some harmony, but fairly tasty and interesting experiment. Quite enjoyable.

Trzecia odsłona "wyzwolenia drożdży" i wnioski pozostają niezmienne...

Bottle from Brewdog Online. Gold, Orange colour, finger white head. Aroma, fruity, grassy with some spice. Taste is much the same, with some toffee, and malty sweetness.

Bottled. Orangeish golden colour with a small wite head. Aroma is fruity, floral, grassy and some toffeeish notes along with a rather strong spiciness. Flavour is spices, toffee, fruits, nectar, some grass and mild malty sweetness. Also some mild spices and earth in the finish.

The ’Belgian’ version in this interesting series, with snow white, sticky and stable head and deep orangey blonde colour, hazy. Has the same citrussy and aromatic hop bitterness as the three others; aroma is not much more complex than the most neutral of the four (the Pilsen Lager one), but does show some Belgian trappist beer-like fruitiness and yeastiness, though in a restrained kind of way. I prefer the aroma of a real Belgian trappist ale, this was, frankly, a bit boring.

Hazy amber color, big off white creamy head. Aroma of yeast, malt, grass and some fruitiness. Medium body, lively carbonation. Medium sweet, light bitter taste. Short bitter finish. Empty and flat. Trappist embarrassment.

UPDATED: NOV 9, 2014 Bottle 0,33l, bought at Beer Paradise in Palmanova (Italy). Hazy amber liquid, yellowish big head. Medium body, light carbonation. Medium bitterness, light sweetness. Ok but maybe too thin.
