Aromas is roasted malt with some hints of chocolate (and anis?). Taste is more roasted malt and again some chocolate, but a bit too thin. I like that it is an organic beer. simoneopazz (51), , Italy

si sente molto sia il malto che l’orzo,ma soprattutto il caramello.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 15, 2009 Bottle. Beer pours a dense brown, nearly black body with a slight off white colour on the top, not thick or lasting. Aroma showed a slight citrus character and roasted malt. Taste is of roasted malt, slight chocolate tones as well. Balanced with some coffee notes on the finish.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 14, 2009 Dark brown with mahogany hues and a very small off-white head that settles fast and leaves small lacings.
Smell of dark malts, smoke, wood, smoked ham, toffee, hints of chocolate, caramel and brown sugar. The smell is decent, some aromas are quite nice, especially the gentle smoky touch, but the sweetish components of sugar and caramel are a bit too much.
Taste is not as pleasant. It’s rather sweet with malty flavors of caramel and toffee to the fore. Mild semi-smoky aromas and notes of wood. Slightly burnt character. The same disturbing character of brown sugar appears here as well though. The finish is mildly bitter with a quick flare of hops and roasted malts.
Medium body with a rather smooth texture. Semi-dry finish.
A decent beer. It get quite pointless after a while. The best thing about this beer is the artwork on the label.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 14, 2009 Straight from the cask, nice sweet malty nose, juicy rounded silky body, little bit of barley & juicy black malt & a touch of caramel. This beer stays nice & refreshing & the finish with another lick of caramel stays well. wheresthepath (536), Buckinghamshire, England
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Nov 12, 2009 [330ml bottle, gift from my wife - cheers!] Pours maroon-black, small cream head, slight fizz. Smells sweet and creamy. Tastes of chocolate with a growing bitterness of burnt malt that becomes a little too dominant to be pleasant. Rather a sticky mouthfeel. Possibly my first beer from BrewDog that’s been merely average.
