Zeitgeist is an ideosyncratic alternative black lager It seeks to recreate the spirit, attitude and autonomy of an age gone by. Its inspiration is found more than 200 years ago. Zeitgeist takes an age old classic, a forgotten masterpiece and gives it relevance and an avant-garde edge. Zeitgeist encapsulates our view of contemporary society, yet simultaneously endeavours to improve it. There is too much conformity. Not enough thought, not enough individualism, not enough alternatives. Our military line ups represent conformity to a higher authority, be it political, brand, celebrity, religion or trend. The subjects in our dystopian landscape further seek to repress their identity through uniforms and masks. Yet underneath their body shapes reveal cracks of personality and individualism. Zeitgeist is about identity, non-conformity and idiosyncrasy. It is a collective, an idea, a movement. It is about giving up ownership of itself to those who care enough to listen.

Draught at BrewDog Camden on 12 Jun 2012. Poured black, with a beige head. Aroma of dark malt, mocha and blackberries. Dark chocolate in the flavour, with grassy hops and molasses. Finish was roasted malt, dried fruit and straw.

Tap at Roundhouse. Translucent black pour with some frothy head. Not much aroma - a bit toasty, a bit crisp. Taste is similar but bigger than aroma - very crisp bigger than expected lager flavors but with a healthy amount of roasted malt. Good black lager. Would get again for an easy drink.

Keg at BrewDog Birmingham. Black with a small brownish head. Heavy lacing. Light aroma of roast malt, grass and milk chocolate. Fairly watery taste, a hint of malt in a slight bitter finish and aftertaste. Very weak palette. Poor by BrewDog standards.

Pours a very dark brown with a small white head that is long lasting, looks like cola. Aroma is a bit lacking. Taste of burnt coffee, earth, chicory. Not bad for a lager I just don’t like lager.

On draught at Camden location. Pours an opaque black color with minimal head. Medium body, slightly dry dark malt flavor balance. Nice underlying malty sweetness. Subtle hop bitterness. Distinctive black lager.

inbirraveritas (1252) - Budapest, HUNGARY - NOV 10, 2014
Draught. Deep dark brown colour with a ruby tint, small filmy beige head. Intensive coffee nose. Easy aroma ruled by coffee escorted by caramel, some bread... Somewhat thin and slick classic Schwarzbier-mouthfeel, which make it easy drinkable. Rather long and dry, tannic, roasty finish. Good.

On tap@ Csakajósör, Budapest. It is a nice schwarzbeer, well balanced, nice roasty aromas, fruits, light sourness. But is only OK, nothing special.
