COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Zeitgeist is an ideosyncratic alternative black lager It seeks to recreate the spirit, attitude and autonomy of an age gone by. Its inspiration is found more than 200 years ago. Zeitgeist takes an age old classic, a forgotten masterpiece and gives it relevance and an avant-garde edge. Zeitgeist encapsulates our view of contemporary society, yet simultaneously endeavours to improve it. There is too much conformity. Not enough thought, not enough individualism, not enough alternatives. Our military line ups represent conformity to a higher authority, be it political, brand, celebrity, religion or trend. The subjects in our dystopian landscape further seek to repress their identity through uniforms and masks. Yet underneath their body shapes reveal cracks of personality and individualism. Zeitgeist is about identity, non-conformity and idiosyncrasy. It is a collective, an idea, a movement. It is about giving up ownership of itself to those who care enough to listen.

ALLOVATE (2652) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - DEC 23, 2010
Pours opaque, dull and jet black in colour. Head a mere layer of tan bubbles atop. Cherries, boysenberries and mulberries, kirsch liqueur and steaming chocolate fondant pudding comes through on the nose as does a lot of rich, charred timber, smoke and peppery spice, very nice. Robust, full bodied and smooth and velvety in mouthfeel. Ashen, bonfire smoke fills the mouth, caramelised and burnt bitter berries along the sides, a huge peak of malt bitterness and peppery spices in back before a long, rum and raisin-like swallow that has more fruit and smoke. Hints. This is divine, complex yet easily sessionable. It dries out the palate well but lingers oh so long; this is very, very refreshing stuff. Additional points just for the fabulous label. A gem of a schwarzbier! (33cL, BB 31/10/10, 1st Choice liquor Jandakot)

Bevuta tempo fa all’O Connor di Genova Quarto, pensavo di averla già votata... ottima black lager, buona anche in abbinamento con un dolcino allo zabaione =)

Beershine (5218) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - DEC 7, 2010
Bottle @ Stockbridge Tap. Opaque black with red tint in the light. Tan head. Nice cocoa, charcoal, and asphalt aromas. Body seems thin but is served too cold. The flavors are clean, dry, and nice charcoaly. The malts don’t shine enough and needs more body. Would be better with more malt and malt sugar but while retaining the good dryness.

In short: A fun dark beer blending black liquorice and tropical fruits. Nice
How: Bottle 330ml. Batch 025, bottled on june 6 2010. Consumed fresh about three months after bottling date. Sent to me by presario. Thanks Trevor
The look: Black body topped by a very small beige head
In long: Nose is medium roasted (fresh burnt cake). Taste has a lot of smooth grape fruity flavored black liquorice candy twist. Some other raisins and other dark fruits, light chocolate notes, soy sauce, kiwis, pineapples, more… This is the type of beer that because of the color you try to find “dark flavors” but when you can really forget about the color your start to notice all these refreshing tropical fruits flavors. Low intensity beer but the mix of liquorice candy twist and refreshing tropical fruits made of a very fun beer. I could drink a six pack of this and still not be satisfied. The carbonation was soft and the body felt a bit juicy. A very nice session beer. In Scotland Zeitgeist has now become the #1 beer of those who prefer BrewDog Zeitgeist over all other beer. Or so I have heard.

I like the idea of this, sort of. A black lager, with a label spouting non conformist ideals kind of poking fun at mass produced lagers. Pours black with a nice offwhite head. Nose is roasty toasty, taste is roasty, warm, nothing to interesting, at least not as interesting as the label. Not as good as sam adams black lager but not a bad example either.

Tap at Jolly Butchers. Pours chestnut-brown with a modest, tan head. Lightly roasted malt aroma with brown sugar and caramel. Modestly sweet with nice hints of chocolate and some dry bitterness. Light to medium in body with average carbonation. The finish is nice and roasty with dark malts, good drying and light caramel sugar. Pretty good but I could do with a bit more sweetness.
