Zeitgeist is an ideosyncratic alternative black lager It seeks to recreate the spirit, attitude and autonomy of an age gone by. Its inspiration is found more than 200 years ago. Zeitgeist takes an age old classic, a forgotten masterpiece and gives it relevance and an avant-garde edge. Zeitgeist encapsulates our view of contemporary society, yet simultaneously endeavours to improve it. There is too much conformity. Not enough thought, not enough individualism, not enough alternatives. Our military line ups represent conformity to a higher authority, be it political, brand, celebrity, religion or trend. The subjects in our dystopian landscape further seek to repress their identity through uniforms and masks. Yet underneath their body shapes reveal cracks of personality and individualism. Zeitgeist is about identity, non-conformity and idiosyncrasy. It is a collective, an idea, a movement. It is about giving up ownership of itself to those who care enough to listen.

Pours dark brown. Aroma of malt dried fruits and Carmel malts. Taste was slightly like cough syrup with some raisin and chocolate. I didn’t like it very much bit drank it anyway.

Bottle from the Criterion, Leicester. Dark beer, with a cough mixture consistency and a few of the flavours too (yes, I’m thinking of Covonia or Benylin). Pretty rich, with some chocolate cake, raisins, a smidge of coffee. Smooth, sweet and balanced. Not too special.

Really pretty good. Its a nicely blended coffee beer with not too much espresso on the tongue and no crazy alcohol taste on the palate. There have been some tough decisions made as to how this beer will finish in the mouth, I feel there were some good ones made. I like the creamy, rich, clean mouthfeel, with the coffee-dark chocolate, bretts and good yeast strain with the right ending to the delicious taste. Dark choco, molasses and roast malt work well.

33cl bottle. Pours clear brown with little head. Aroma of molasses, roastedness and light cocoa. Flavor is light roasted malts, dark fruits, and a touch of bitterness. Quite dry finish. Not mindblowing for sure.

Bottle. A rather sweet aroma, very malty, milk chocolate. The pale beige creamy-foamy head has a normal duration, the body is black. The taste is rather bitter, malty, light medical. The body is light to medium strong, dry and light fizzy with a normal carbonation.

33cl bottle from brewery. More body and aroma than I expected. Full roast aroma, plenty of flavour, with a touch of licqourice and blackcurrant just making an appearance late on in the aftertaste. At 4.9% the alcohol is very noticeable and wraps itself around the tongue, coating the inside of the mouth. The texture is oily and, having initially thought it was very stout-like, it became very apparent that it was much more thsan just that. A fine, fine beer.

Into the glass pours a deep black brew, which is hardly sparkling. It smells and tastes almost exactly like a Köstritzer Schwarzbier. Only includes the Zeitgeist nearly no CO2. The flavors are dominated by roasted malt and a coffee-like bitterness. Towards the middle part it gets even more bitter coffee and roasty.

(bottle conditioned) . the roasty malt nose that gave birth to chocolate notes metamphored into Easter ...A decent take on a Schwarzbier .roasty, creamy milk chocolate maltiness...earthiness with flabby sweetness .
