Zeitgeist is an ideosyncratic alternative black lager It seeks to recreate the spirit, attitude and autonomy of an age gone by. Its inspiration is found more than 200 years ago. Zeitgeist takes an age old classic, a forgotten masterpiece and gives it relevance and an avant-garde edge. Zeitgeist encapsulates our view of contemporary society, yet simultaneously endeavours to improve it. There is too much conformity. Not enough thought, not enough individualism, not enough alternatives. Our military line ups represent conformity to a higher authority, be it political, brand, celebrity, religion or trend. The subjects in our dystopian landscape further seek to repress their identity through uniforms and masks. Yet underneath their body shapes reveal cracks of personality and individualism. Zeitgeist is about identity, non-conformity and idiosyncrasy. It is a collective, an idea, a movement. It is about giving up ownership of itself to those who care enough to listen.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2011 Bottle from Systembolaget. I have had this a couple of times since I first rated it and it has grown on me, quite a lot. I buy this from time to time to get a break from the extremely hopped IPAs I usually buy. It has a nice complex aroma of roasted malts and coffee. It pours black with a little light brown foam. Taste is a little bitter and some sourness and sweetness in a nice blend with coffee and chocolate. I quite enjoy having one of these from time to time.

Bottle @ home. Intense black, red glow, medium tanned head. Aroma is roasted malt, liquorice and hops. Flavour is roasted malt, hops and notes of fruit. Palate is a bit thin and watery, yet filled with flavour. Schwarz is not really my style but this is some good stuff.

Nice dark colour. Enjoyed the roasty coffee-like dark stoutness. Well made, although a bit boring.

Bottle 330 ml from Slijterij van bergen in Eindhoven (NL). Black beer with mineral flavor, tasted malt, espresso. The taste is even more roasted, dry, dark chocolate, coffee. A little bit watery, bitter of coffee, aniseed key on the end. Disappointing opposite the german.

0.33 l bottle. Dark reddish brown color. Gently roasty aroma with chocolate, coffee, leather and cola. Soft yet drying and roasty flavor with coffee, dark fruits, charcoal and bitter chocolate. Fairly light body, slightly astringent palate. Somehow leaves me cold.
