COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Zeitgeist is an ideosyncratic alternative black lager It seeks to recreate the spirit, attitude and autonomy of an age gone by. Its inspiration is found more than 200 years ago. Zeitgeist takes an age old classic, a forgotten masterpiece and gives it relevance and an avant-garde edge. Zeitgeist encapsulates our view of contemporary society, yet simultaneously endeavours to improve it. There is too much conformity. Not enough thought, not enough individualism, not enough alternatives. Our military line ups represent conformity to a higher authority, be it political, brand, celebrity, religion or trend. The subjects in our dystopian landscape further seek to repress their identity through uniforms and masks. Yet underneath their body shapes reveal cracks of personality and individualism. Zeitgeist is about identity, non-conformity and idiosyncrasy. It is a collective, an idea, a movement. It is about giving up ownership of itself to those who care enough to listen.

That’s some marketing spiel for a beer that’s alright at best. Light maltiness, pleasantly bitter in the finish, fruity hints in there. Fine, nothing to go out of your way for.

UPDATED: MAY 23, 2012 One of the best I’ve ever had. Bottled, from Zly Casy, Prague. Dark, with a modest head. Lots of chocolate and roasted malts in taste and aroma, incredibly smooth (the smoother-feeling beer I’ve had was the Left Hand Milk Stout). A great beer, not shocking or innovative in any way, but incredibly pleasant.

Bottle. Pours a black, reddish colour with little head. Faint aroma of malts and grains.. Flavour has some grainy notes and a dry finish. Some roastiness present.. easy drinkable. Quite a watery mouthfeel. Ok dark lager.. nothing more, nothing less.

[5/9/12] Draught at Fermentoren in Copenhagen. Black-colored with a creamy light brown head. Roasted malt aroma with some coffee beans and dark chocolate hints. Sweetish roasty flavor with coffee and a bit of milk chocolate notes. Medium-bodied. Alright.

Ottima birra.

Pours a clear and brown beer with a beige head. The aroma is malt, sweetness, chocolate and notes of soya. The flavor follows the nose with additional bitterness. The palate is sweetness. Overall this is an average beer.

Clear but very dark red-brown beer. Crispish semi dry palate. Minerally and somewhat tangy malt that is a little bit roasty. Finishes watery with minerals and hop bitterness. Not my favourite dark lager by a country mile.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines and Spirits, Pershore Road, Birmingham. Pours black like a very black thing. Aroma of malts, strong coffee, fruitcake. Mouthfeel fizzy and slightly rough to start but also thin and watery at the end. Being a BrewDog beer I was expecting it to taste of pomegranate mixed with dynamite and snow leopard; however, this is a straight down the middle malty lager, not overly strong and with no bells and whistles. Yes, it’s drinkable but that taste is an anticlimax - even more so given the calibre of the brewery.
