Well, this is probably the big milestone so far. 100 was good but easily achievable, 200 pretty much the same with the subsequent centuries becoming more difficult as beer literally ran dry. So now 500 arrives with a beer that I am told only had this number as its brew run. This means only 300 litres of this has been made available to the world. Is it worth the SGD25 (AUD21/USD15) for the 640ml bottle? Does the fact that there are instructions that as I empty the bottle I can blow into it and get the sound of notes made famous by Ashkenazy? Who you ask? Bloody Philistines. Vladimir Ashkenazy has often been quoted as saying that for him music is indivisible. This conviction is borne out by his passionate engagement with so many different aspects of music-making, whether as conductor, piano recitalist or chamber musician or as the architect of large-scale projects encompassing the full range of musical activities. This was bottle number 250 of the 500 so hopes are high. Is this the first 5?? Aah nup. It is a good beer, dry, with a reasonable lager colour and head. There is a slight nuttiness with a musty undertone. This is not a negative thing however as it does at least distinguish it from other lagers. I hope I don't have to pay $50 for my thousandth.
