UPDATED: OCT 27, 2009 An interesting historical brew, based on old recipes from colonial Maryland. Nice mahogany pour. Nose is floral and malty, with a little toast too. Mild, toasted rye flavor with a bit of sweetness and a dry finish. Overall feel is like a fairly light, but still tasty amber. An unusual and enjoyable brew.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Elwood (1966) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - JUL 21, 2009
12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep amber with a foamy off-white head. The head is pretty quick to disappear. The nose is sweet with notes of molasses, rye, wheat, and spice. Medium carbonation with a medium-light, slightly dry mouthfeel. Caramel, molasses, rye, and an ususual note that I assume is affected by the caraway on the palate. Medium-short finish with a little molasses hanging around. Malty yet light and dry. It isn’t too complex, but it is fairly enjoyable.

Mahogany appearance with a small beige head and light lacing. Malty, molassas infused aroma. Lightly spiced, moderately sweet taste with rye prominent in its grain bill. Medium bodied, decently carbonated mouthfeel. Durable finish that avoided becoming too cloying.
