This is a dark version of the weizen beer style. The grist contains a large portion of wheat, which lends a distinctive note to the malt body and aroma. This style is traditionally un-filtered and can have significant haze and cloudiness. Our Dunkle Weizen is brewed with a traditional Bavarian weizen yeast, which gives it a very pronounced clove and spice character, as well as a fruity aroma.

Wife ordered this draft at the brewpub, served in a pint glass. Cloudy orangy-copper color with off-white head. Aroma notes of bread, Belgian yeast (banana, clove, bubblegum), citrus and light spices. Taste adds more malt sweetness, caramel and yeasty fruitiness. Light body, moderate-low carbonation, sticky with light bitter sweet finish. Nice enough local dunkel.

On tap at Adega Wine Cellars & Cafe in Silver Spring, MD. ABV listed as 4.8%. Cloudy, dark copper burnt-orange with a small off-white head and excellent lacing. Rather pale for a dunkle, this beer is only slightly darker than many hefeweizens. Aroma of lemon, citrus wheat and mild banana. Taste of banana, lemon, wheat , yeast and citrus. Medium/light body and medium carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On draft at the brewpub. Pours a deep golden amber with a frothy off white head. Aroma is nice and soft with notes of banana, spice and a touch of sweet caramel. Flavor is again very classic, sweet fruitiness, banana, subtle spices, clove, a nice sweet malty note. FInishes clean with a touch of wheat. Medium body and a soft carbonation. I liked it, very refreshing and clean.

Draft. Cloudy orangish brown with a yellowish head. Heavy citrus, perfume, and wheat in the nose. Medium low carbonation with a rich mouthfeel. Spice, citrus, wheat, and honey all showed up on my palate. My tongue bounces from sweet to bitter as both sides linger. An unexpected find, but I am glad I had a chance to try this one.

Draught at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy dull copper with very small beige head. The aroma is perfumy and yeasty; clove, bread, some scented lotion, and banana chips. The flavor is straightforward banana, not a whole lot else. Maybe some caramel and white bread. The finish is very yeast. This is surprisingly very drinkable.
