Taster on tap at the brewpub. Clear golden color. Thin white head, that leaves nice thicker sheets of lace. Good bready malt aroma. Light hint of spiciness. Medium body. Smooth, lightly soft, lighter carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter. A very solid, clean kolsch.

First Kolsch. Pours neon orange with a thin head. Aroma is orange, tangerine, citrus, gummy bears. Was beginning to think I was a fan of the style until I drank it. Nothing against this beer, as I’m sure it’s the style. But it tastes like a watered down alcoholic carbonated fruit tea.

Strangely enough, my first Kolsch is rate #808. Bottle from the old man. Hometown brew for me. Pours a clear deep golden with nearly no head. Some white lacing around the glass. Aroma of honey, straw, sweetness, some floral hops. Light bodied with highish carbonation. Flavor is sweet malts, honey, some corny finish. Some bitter hop presence. Not bad and easy drinking. Slightly metallic. Would take over a pale lager for sure.

on tap at the brewpub. it’s very grassy with a spice in the finish that I can’t put my finger on. It’s not a particularly pleasant finish to it.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Not my favorite kolsch, pretty mellow. Nice honey flavor, but doesnt have some of the grassy flavors of some others. Sweet and creamy. Not my favorite, but ok.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Pours a clear dark gold body with a one finger fizzy white head that faded pretty quickly. The nose is bready and crackery maltiness, but there’s also an odd fruity note that smells a bit like grape soda instead of the yeast derived fruitiness that I’m expecting. The flavor is a little too sweet for the style in my opinion, there’s nothing about this that would make me guess Kolsch, versus your average Golden Ale. Lightly bready maltiness, a minimal hop addition, and finishes with a little more sweetness than I care for. Light bodied with fizzy carbonation and a slightly clingy finish. I suppose I’ll have to go to Cologne if I really want to have a well made version of the style.
