COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The warming sensation of this strong beer goes nicely with the cold fall and winter months. It has a very rich malt character, residual sweetness, delicate bouquet, and alcohol strength. This beer is served in specially shaped thistle-glasses, which allows the beer to be held in the hand to warm up and release its aroma into the flared top portion of the glass. Available late October into December.

Draft served in thistle glass at restaurant. Orange-amber color with small tan head. Aroma of sweet roasty malts and light fruit. Taste is rich malt sweetness and some hints of vanilla and nuts. Fully body, creamy mouth-feel, didn’t taste the alcohol at all (nicely hidden). Pretty tasty.

Cask at Brewer’s Alley. Pours hazy brown with a creamy white head. Tastes very smooth and creamy, like toffee, malt, caramel, banana, apple. Medium body and low carbonation. Smells sour, malty, and like apples.

Cask at Brewers Alley. Pours murky brown with thick, creamy off-white head. Aroma is bready and caramel malts, fig, raisin, light floral notes, faint oak, and faint booze. Flavor is sweet, bready malts, dark fruit esters, light woody notes, and faint spice; dry malty finish. Medium body and low carbonation.

On tap 4 oz. sample at Maryland Craft Beer Festival 2012. Clear, deep orange-red with small tan head and very good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and subtle hops. Taste is a complex mix of roasted malts, vanilla, sweetness, bread, hops and alcohol. Full body and medium plus carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice sweetness. I didnt get any warming sensation, and like most b.a. beers almost no head and soda mouthfeel. 2nd best of the night.

Wow, this beer was the best I’ve had from Brewer’s Alley thus far. It was served in a tulip glass, had a smooth, dark copper-brown color and a very small, foamy white head that was quickly gone. The aroma was sweet and fruity with discernable tones of caramel, raisins, and maybe some pear; very malty and rich. The flavor was excellent; sweet and fruity, with great fruit tones and a caramel touch. There would be no way of knowing it featured 8.0% alcohol by the taste. Smooth and slightly creamy on the palate with only light carbonation. A wonderful beer that is an extreme bargain at only $3!

On tap at the brewpub on 1/19/07: Pours a transparent deep copper amber with a full-lacing, thin, but dense light tan head. Aroma of sweet caramely malt with a hint of peat and some light fruit. Body starts fairly full and sweet with nice caramel maltiness and a smooth, slightly warming finish. True to style and enjoyable.

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2007 Draft at the brewpub. Served in a tulip glass. This is pitch black with a thin trim of white. Very light licorice aroma. Once it’s finally tasted, this has a robust sugary essence, but in an extremely well-balanced way. Roasty, toasty and very sweet, this is an awesome beer for the winter months. (#2658, 1/15/07)
