UPDATED: MAR 13, 2012 I had this at the brewpub in March 2010, re-rated with new edition in March 2012. The beer was a semi-cloudy brown-dark amber color with an average-sized dark tan head that had short retention but a decent cling. The aroma had a touch of grainy and earthy hops but was predominantly chocolate and caramel malts. The taste was mostly chocolate with some caramel malt and a grainy bitterness too. It was a fairly wet beer with lower carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel.

Draft at Brewer’s Alley. I have never had a chocolate ale before... always a stout or porter. This beer looked great, had a good aroma of the chocolate, but the taste was strange with the chocolate. Not what I expected. Overall it’s okay, but Brewer’s Alley does many others much better.
