750ml from State Line. I’m gonna go ahead and give this its highest rating so far. Soft pour with a big fluffy head, active bottle conditioning as is the norm for TBA. Dark gold, as befits the spices. But really, the spices don’t dominate to me. Faint buttery scents and sweet malts in the nose, along with the advertised additions. But this is akin to the brewery’s tripel, simply with different additions and a lower ABV. That may sound simplistic, but it’s basically a bold blonde with some additions, not to far off from the Cuvee Angelique and those sorts of brews. Pretty enjoyable.

Well, it was spicey with lots of cinnamon and something else unpleasant (saffron?). It started out hard to drink...then I got used to it for a while...then I had trouble finishing. The underlying beer wasn’t bad, I guess...too bad I couldn’t taste it more.

Bottle from SL. The aroma was strong cinnamon and other spices after a pour that triggered tons of carbonation release, soda-poppy type head, hard to pour. The flavor followed, cinnamon hits the strongest in the front flavors along with other spices, a little overwhelming even when cold. The aftertaste, though, does release some beer elements of barley and yeast. Unfortunately, the spice does nag at you in the finish, cardamum and saffron both probably at it. All too many "spice" brews just don’t back off enough on the spices and they overwhelm. This was no exception, and I was hoping for more from this bewer. Meh.

On tap @ The Brewers Art. Clear amber with no head. Spicy aroma of cardamom with some Belgian yeast and a slight perfume scent. Sweet malty base with a sourness from the yeast and a bit of bitterness from the spices. Medium body with a mild carbonation. The spices add a nice flavor to this one.

A good amber ale with no head. Ethylic aroma, wet dough and gree aples. In mouth, a sweet candy sugar with orange peels, cardamom, a bit murky, and lacking body, but still decent. On tap at brewpub, Dec. 28 2008.
