Appearance: darkish gold, lightly hazed; fluffy, foamy off-white head; good amount of lacing. Aroma: warm pie crust, grains, notes of citrus and floral hops. Taste: darkish whole grain bread with honey butter, balanced by a nice mix of citrus, floral and earth hops. Finish: slightly dry, a little bitter, with that Brewer’s Art malty finish coming back strong. Notes: This was a surprisingly full-flavored kolsch, with much more in the way of hops than what I’ve come to expect from the style. Nonetheless, well-balanced flavors and an excellent palate make this extremely drinkable and sessionable.

   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 8/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 16/20
CaptainCougar (6749) - Boz Scaggsville, Maryland, USA - AUG 16, 2009
On tap at Frisco Grille: Pours a transparent deep golden with a spotty-lacing white head. Aroma of semi-sweet biscuity malt with some floral character and grassy noble hops. Starts with good carbonation and fullness for the style with a light malty sweetness and good, crisp, earthy bittering hoppiness before a clean, bittersweet finish. An enjoyable, authentic and refreshing Kölsch.

I loved this beer. Maybe it was the atmosphere (my first time to Brewer’s Art on the way to a highly anticipated live show with a great friend), maybe it is my obsession with the elusive great session lager, but damn this was a good Kolsch. The aroma and flavor of pure unadulterated malted barley with a perfect balance of continental hops all the way to the superbly crisp satisfying palate and finish. I could drink this stuff all day, I almost wish that I had.
