Our answer to the Belgian «devil» beers (i.e. Lucifer, Duvel, etc.). Both rich and dry, this beer is all too easy to consume in large quantities. Hopped with Styrian Goldings.

On tap @ The Brewers Art. Clear golden yellow with a pure white head. Big yeasty aroma with ample German hops, light fruit and a mild bready scent. All of the flavors are in this one, sweet, sour and bitter and they are well balanced. Medium to light in body with average carbonation and a creamy soft mouth feel. My favorite of the night from the pub.

Pours a cloudy yellow with nice fluffy white head. Nose is strong banana, Belgian yeast, lemon zest, peel and spice. Taste is heavy banana, peel, lemon, Belgian yeast and coriander. Very full nose and palate mouth feel.

Bottle my buddy picked up for me while home on spring break. Pours a hazy gold with massive white head. Aroma has those belgian ale qualities but with a stronger vegetal quality. Notes of lemon peel, caramel, yeast, and brussel sprouts. Flavor is more vegetal than I’d expect: notes of edamame with toasted almonds, yeast, and caramel malt. The mouthfeel is awesome: soft, slightly velvety with some earthiness and plenty of yeast. A bit weird but well-balanced and really enjoyable.

C&C 750 mL bottle from State Line Liquors. Pours a hazy golden color with tons of visible carbonation. Large pillowy white head. Good head retention. Aroma of citrus, yeast, bread, stone fruits and a spicy finish. The taste is citrus, stone fruits, strawberry, spices and a hoppy finish. Full bodied. Lively carbonation.

750ml received in a recent trade with starrdogg. Thanks again man! Best by date 11/18/12. Pours a clear dark golden yellow color with a massive three finger frothy, pillowy white head. Excellent retention, only slowly fading into a lasting cap that coats the glass with large chunks of soapy lacing. Lots of visible carbonation bubbling up. Earthy, slightly funky aroma with lots of crisp, light fruit, zesty spice and sweet alcohol. Subtle barnyard presence with a prominent earthy grass and straw character balanced out by spicy pepper and clove as well a champagne yeast like effervescence. Some sweet alcohol with estery light fruit, especially apple, pear and grape. They are going for a Duvel clone and they nailed the aroma. Medium bodied and fuller than I expected with lots of tight carbonation and earthy, bitter hops up front that linger throughout into a dry finish. Well balanced with a good bit of earthy, tart flavor countered by zesty spice, light fruit, sweet alcohol and dry champagne yeast effervescence. Hints of pepper and clove as well as some apple, pear, grass, straw and alcohol. Similar to Duvel but not quite as good with a fuller body, stronger hop presence and less alcohol bite. It has more of a spicy and herbal presence than I prefer and all of the flavors are a bit much. Pretty good and easy to drink but it could be a bit more balanced.

750mL bottle courtesy of lackenhauser shared with the Brick Store crowd. As with the Le Canard we opened, the cork on this one popped with some serious power and foam started coming out the bottle. Pours a clear golden amber with a huge fluffy white head that lasts forever and leaves tons of lacing. The aroma is fairly sweet with plenty of yeast that lends a slight spiciness to the character as well. Pears, apples and biscuity malts also factor in the smell in minimal doses. The taste is a tad sweeter than the aroma. The fruits come out a little more with the apples showing out. The light malts and yeast come in more in the finish as the spiciness of the yeast lingers on palate for a while. The mouthfeel is extremely lively with lots of carbonation, probably a little too much honestly. This is only my second beer from Brewers Art, and, like the first, it’s a well-constructed brew that shows extremely good drinkability. Good stuff.

On tap at Brewpub in Baltimore. My friends and I sat upstairs, the more posh of the two bars at this joint. Later we found out the downstairs bar was actually quite a bit more interesting. Ozzy pours gold with a white head from one of the coolest wooden taps I’ve seen. The aroma is grassy, biscuity, and spiced with coriander. The flavor is soft, with a surprisingly floral-hop quality, along with grass, white ginger, and sugar. Palate is light and prickly. Nice, but a little "soft" for my taste.

Draft. Clear golden hue with dissipating white head. Nose is subtle, but sweet malts and spices peek through. Flavor is pure Duvel clone with a bit more bitter grassy hop presence and spice profile, nice complexity and dry finish. An impressive angle on a Belgian classic, smooth and easy at 7%!

Bottle. Pours gold with a big white head. Fresh yeasty spicy aroma with peachy notes and light floral notes. The flavor is yeasty and spicy, with light earthy notes and a light fruity sweetness. Nice.
