During the fermentation of the first batch of this Abbey-style dubbel, the yeast «died» and was «resurrected» by brewer Chris Cashell. This beer is not unlike those that certain Belgian monks have been brewing since the 16th century. Made with five types of barley malt and lots of sugar, this beer is quite strong and flavorful, without being too sweet.

A great beer, but don’t forget Brewer’s Art’s other selections. These brews are very different, and very good. Brewer’s Art seems different from it’s hop-heavy competition, with more emphasis on subtle flavor. Overall, a good approach...

Thx to Roger. A solid amber - didn’t seem like a dubbel to me. A bit of smoke, slightly acrid taste. Aroma makes a good impression.

Cask gravity dispense at GBBF. Hazy dark orange, still, small bubbly off-white head. Aroma is apple juice, baby food and booze. Body is medium, low carbonation, smooth. Taste is watery, soft biscuity malts, cheese sandwich, resin, light bitterness. OK.

12oz can in a plastic cup. Pours brown with a beige head. Aroma of spicy yeast, some pale and caramel malts, light hops, and some cloves/bananas. Flavor the same with a nice blend. Average texture. A decent dubbel, but sort of light.

Cask at Great British Beer Festival 2015. Clear amber beer with an offwhite head. Malty caramell aroma. Malty fruity citrus flavour. Boring beer with some strange artificial notes.

Cask at GBBF 2015. It pours clear brown with a small beige head. The nose is earthy, toasty, bitter-sweet, raisin, sultana, spice and toffee. The taste is smooth, bitter-sweet, spicy, caramel, raisin, sultana, leather, charred wood and mild acidity with a dry, spiced finish. Medium+ body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. A bit watery for what it is. Forgettable.

GBBF Day 1. Cask. Clear amber beer, few pale cream colour bubbles. Palate is light and semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Nice condition. Orange and orange peel, marmalade, trace of lemon. Little floralness before the light semi dry finish. Bright and tasty.
