3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
2013 bottle: Beautiful very dark brown pour once the foamy head discipates. Has good lacing & a decent retaining tan head. The aroma is quite soft & malty. The taste is also mild but has a very nice mouthfeel. It’s malty, a touch spicy, & fairly boozy. Quite a nice brew overall!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle at home. Pours nearly opaque dark brown with a large, foamy beige head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is heavy toast and bread malt, lightly sweet dates, raisins and figs, faint orange notes and earthy spices and hops. Flavor is dry toast and bread malt, spicy alcohol, soft dark fruit notes, light earthy hops and bitterness with a dry finish though some sweetness does linger. Full body and moderate carbonation.

I’d been holding onto the 2013 bottle for way too long, so it was time to drink it, even though it is in the height of Summer. Ah well. This one poured a medium brown color, touch of ruby notes, and a gigantic light tan head. I mean huge, even though it was served almost immediately out of the fridge. This one foamed like crazy. Once it settled (relatively quickly), it was ready to drink. Sweet molasses, dark brown sugar and notes of light spices. Flavor was nice easy to drink sweet molasses, toffee, with some light spices.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Appearance dark, opaque brown with one finger of thick, creamy light tan head. Aroma: spices up front (cinnamon, clove, black pepper, allspice), over herbal hops and some brown bread and fruitcake. Taste: figs, plums, molasses, herb, light pine, graham cracker, and holiday spice melange. Finish: lingering fruit and spice, light sweetness. Notes: Perfectly fine. Basically a dark Belgian with what I’ve come to view as the typical ’holiday spice bucket’, so common in Christmas beers, tossed in. Beerdvent 2013 selection.

750 corked and caged bottle. Shared with multiple others at brew club. Pours a thin fizzy head over a hazy reddish brown (SRM 20) body....nose is dried cherry, fig, plum, minimal hops.....taste is heavy cherry, fig, hints of cocoa, hints of molasses, sweet throughout, finishing with light hop tones, minimal bitterness.....mouth feel light of medium, alcohol hidden, carbonation makes it very fizzy. This is on the sweet end of the Belgian Strong Ale style, also very highly carbonated, and on the simple end of the spectrum. Perhaps a change in the malt bill and a yeast change would improve it.
