Big thanks to BavarianPurity for the growler! This pours an orange/gold color with a small but dense and stable orange head. The aroma is sweaty with cedar like aromatics and orange/tangerines. There’s some vegetal notes as well, some onion and garlic spiciness. Maybe this is the Summit hop influence? The flavor is very big and inky bitter with more vegetables, oranges, wood, and some toffee sweetness. The alcohol was very strong as well. It has a very chewy, sticky mouthfeel. The sheer impact of this beer is huge, but it’s a little too much for me.

growler graciously provided by rusty when he used to be chiles on 5/1/10. clear golden with a soft almost white head. tons of fruit in the nose... peaches, pineapples, citrus and their pith mix with peppery, papery, bubblegum, onion skunk hops, earthy wood and pale malt. those same fruit make up the flavor profile along with resinous pine, caramel, spicy earthy hops, wood and grainy sweetness with a ’holy hell’, that’s a bitter finish. it is a bit sweeter than i’d ideally like but the bitterness and alcohol cut it up nicely... actually better than nicely. at times i begin to ask myself how something this rich and alcoholic can feel so light? crap this stuff is good. 8/3/8/4/16/3.9

Growler from Sun Up. Pours a clear orange almost brown with a foamy sticky white head. Aroma is citrusy hops, pine, malt, resin. Flavor is citrus, pineapple, grapefruit complete with a light fruity sweetness that is counteracted by extreme hop bitterness. There is a level of astringency in this due to how hoppy it is and it could very well Double as tooth enamel remover. The bitter finish comes out a little soapy, with just enough sweetness to not make you hate yourself but that’s the way we like our hops round these parts. ALMOST as good as the first wort triple IPA. Or maybe better, considering how my palate is immune to hops these days.

On draft at Sun Up w/ Bockyhorsey after the Phils/DBacks game. Orange colored pour, decent white colored head that laced fairly well in the snifter. The aroma was strong citrus, light floral, some caramel notes. The flavor was super strong grapefruit citrus hops, firm bitterness, big malty body, orangey flavors, resionous pine hops, apricots, caramel. Big mouthfeel, a tad hot, yet this was fairly "dry" for the level of abv and all. A decent big experience.

Beerlando (3324) - Orlando, Florida, USA - SEP 15, 2008
Handbottle courtesy FlacoAlto. The body is clear and dark reddish-amber in color. A thick, frothy, cream colored head settles slowly to a thin film, dense lacing marking the glass well. The aroma is massive in every way. Potent, fruity hop notes include orange, apricot and citrus blossoms. The bitterness is huge, but the malty sweetness is even more intense. Caramel, toffee, and honey drizzled biscuit are boldly sweet. The first sip is more hoppy barleywine than IIPA. The malt billing is just so huge, it dominates even 125 IBUs. Still, orange and floral hops are substantial enough to kick your tongue into gear. The body is thick, sticky, and overly alcoholic. In the end, this beer is just too extreme, and too aggressive in its malt profile to be considered elite. In fact, as it stands, its really only mediocre at best.

growler from flactoalto pours a golden orange with a nice head and excellent lacing. Hops are a little muddled, but this is a very nice and very strong brew overall. Sweet a be alcoholic with hoppy background.

Pours a radiant amber color from the tap at the Den with a trim white head of foam. Mild hops on the nose, but full-bodied and loaded with hops and malts on the palate. The ABV said 10.2% when I was there, so I think the stats listed for this beer’s profile are slightly inflated, although the alcohol is very apparent as this one warms.

egajdzis (4587) - Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 10, 2008
Poured a clear amber color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of pine, caramel malts, citrus fruits, some toast, and a bit of floral hops. Taste was sweeter caramel, citrus, resiny pine, and grapefruit, with light alcohol presence. Sweeter malts covered the higher alcohol. Thanks Steve!

Hand bottle thanks to FlacoAlto. Poured a medium amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of floral, citrus, some tropical fruits, and lighter caramel. Tastes of citrus (sweet oranges followed by bitter grapefruit), floral, and caramel. On the sweeter side. Wow, 11%+; I never would have guessed!

On tap @ Brewers Den - Now this beer is what I’m talkin’ about! Pours a clear golden color with a small off white head that pretty much lasted to the bottom of the glass. Nice layered lacing. Aroma is bigtime pine and floral hops. Flavor is pretty much of the same with the addition of some light malt sweetness. The alcohol is noticeable, but not over bearing. Palate is quite smooth with no lingering aftertaste. Medium body. This is an excellent beer!
