Dark and malty, the appearance doesn’t prepare you for a crispness of taste. Lighter than it looks, it is very drinkable and beautifully smooth.

bartlebier (1967) - Belchum im Breisgau, GERMANY - DEC 3, 2014
Bottle from Craft Beer Store HH 11/14, bb 02/15. Generic Schwarzbier cover that pours like liuid rusty toffee, with very moderate herbal hoppiness and roast exotics, offering some toffee and milk chocolate hints, veering into generic macro Dunkel territory where it substitutes roast, nuttiness for liquid, watery caramel. Does not become cloying and is drinkable like a lager with a pleasant fruitiness, but that’s about it. Nothing for a South-African collective contracting in a Bavarian macro to wax preemptively Brazilian&lyrical about yet.

Paalte is fluffy and airyand a nice dry finish. Chalky water profile. Clean lager with decent character if a bit light.
