dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA May 28, 2007 Too much of a sour milk aroma. Looks nice. Flavor is sweet and chocolaty, far too sweet. Thick at the same time. GG (1613), NorCal, California, USA Apr 27, 2007 Nothing kills my mood for a porter like black patent does. Something about that just makes me think of liking a charcoal briquette. This beer has plenty of that. Aroma was roasty, slightly nutty and a bit bready. Appearance was dark brown with red highlights. Mouthfeel was too thin for my liking. Flavor was charcoal, roasted malts and an odd sourness that I found unappealing. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Mar 27, 2007 Draft at the brewpub. Poured a clear dark brown color with reddish-orange highlights. Head was light tan and left a little lace behind. Chocolatey and nutty malty aroma and flavor with only a hint of toasted bread. Medium bodied, moderately dry. Decent. HopheadHans (753), Bay Area, California, USA May 1, 2006 tap at the brewpub. An outstanding porter that pours fairly dark with a large brown head that lasts. Definitely the best beer in their lineup. Aromas of choclolate and roasted malts, flavors of chocolate and a hint of nuts and coffee.
Very smooth and robust. AleDrinker (1090), Sunnyvale, California, USA Jan 12, 2006 Very rich and dark porter here. Plenty of burnt and roasted malt flavors here. A bit acidic, but that comes with the territory. Went great with the ranchers pizza. jazz88 (2236), San Francisco, California, USA Mar 5, 2003 Tap. Black color with a brown head. Very robust aroma and flavor. Toasted malt, coffee, rubber, and some sourness. beerstop (173), Roanoke, Virginia, USA Sep 9, 2002 Updated: Feb 5, 2003One of the best Porters I"ve ever had. Incredible flavors. Perfectly balanced. Only wish I could have taken some home.
