Pours a hazy golden with two fingers of long lasting white head. Mild hop and oak aroma. Smooth hop taste upfront followed by very mild oakiness. Very drinkable.

Growler: The aroma consists of light grapefruit, vanilla, and a hint of bubblegum. It pours a transparent amber with a small white head that leaves behind some spotty lacing. The flavor starts with faint bubblegum and Belgian yeast. The finish has light-moderate grapefruit and some faint vanilla notes. It’s light-medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Draft at HopCat. Barrel ageing doesn’t help this one much. Nice vanilla aroma, but still lacks body and character. Simple not enough malt.

On tap at brewery, pours a clear dark orange amber with a nice white head and lacing through out the entire glass, the aroma is of heavy oak with some citrus hops, really digging the aroma on this one, the flavor has a good amount of oak and vanilla with a hoppy and belgian yeast finish, not bad at all.

Silphium (2718) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - DEC 19, 2011
Draft at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Hazy medium orange-brown body, medium clumping cream head with nice lacing. Spicy hops nose of pine needles and bitter spicy candies. Body with sharp tannic, buttery white oak backed by softened bitter hops and toast; little sweetness. Finishes like a fresh white oak core smells. Dry but doesn’t bring a lot of alcohol heat. Pretty good.

Tap @ Brewery Vivant. Slightly hazy, orange appearance with an off white head. Moderately earthy, citrusy, slightly piney hoppy, dull malty, oaky aroma. Floral, somewhat citrusy, herbal hoppy, belgian yeasty, woody, vanilla flavor.

Draft at BV Pub. Poured a clear copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate cherry woody, yeast and earthy aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy cherry woody bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met with a solid beer.

tap at vivant. amber with white head..aroma of oak and vanilla soaked hop cones..flavor is similar, as the oak breaks down the hop and belgian yeast punch from the original, and offers the oak with a much more subtle, softer and sweeter body...
