Hoppy Belgian Ale. This red ale is all about hops. It is an American-Belgian fusion of beer styles taking imported Belgian caramel malts and bitch slapping it with a heavy handed dose of American hops. Expect hints of mango, pineapple, and citrus to hit your nose with an assertive hop presence.

Ratebeer is stating this is an IPA. I am unsure if I classify it as that. It does have a bit of hops, but I would state this is more of a red ale. Pours a dark red with a huge frothy head. I can’t pick out unique flavors to it. This is a good beer. Good one for when you want something easy drinking and not too heavy. It does not excel at anything, but would either be a good one to pair with food (that won’t overwhelm the flavors of food), or on a hot day. I might re-rate this when I have another...maybe one that wasn’t pulled from a cooler (and at a temperature I am more used to drinking)

Sample at Vivant on 5/17/14. Clear red pour with a medium off-white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, Belgian esters and grassy hops. Malty and toasty flavor with slight toffee before a grassy hop finish.

Light red color with an off-white head. Aroma and taste match the description to a T: a hoppy red Belgian. Nothing too special, but certainly not bad.

Draft to taster at Brewery Vivant. Looks good; a mostly transparent amberish orange with eggshell head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells solid; Belgian yeast, fruity hops, and caramel malt. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

Picked up on a trip to Michigan I was excited to see what Brewery Vivant had up their sleeves. After a few previous samples hit it out of the park I knew they were not just another run of the mill homebrewer turned professional. This did not disappoint and if it were local I would definitely buy more.

Aroma / Appearance - A cloudy orange base is decorated with a fringe of white cream. Malt, red vines, and hop forward notes erase all doubts about the intentions of this aggressive IPA.

Flavor / Palate - A sticky mouthfeel is full of almonds, red vines, and malt. Smooth from start to finish it is a good value at $2.99. I imagine the four or six pack price to be slightly cheaper. If you like Midwestern IPAs this is a prototypical example with a strong Michigan twist.
