UPDATED: FEB 22, 2013 Can. Pours a cloudy orange color with a very small amount of head. Aroma is grainy malt, honey, and some light citrus and red fruit. Taste is very smooth. Reminds me a Belgian Triple. Light fruity notes mixed with some flavorful malt. The honey holds it together it keeps it smooth. The Belgian yeast flavor does not come through until the finish and is very subtle. High carbonation and medium body. Slightly sticky mouthfeel. I enjoyed this beer. Not nearly as complex as other Belgian Strongs but itís smooth and tasty. Re-rate 2/22/13 - Had this twice more and donít like it as much. Over-carbonated a bit and the flavors are dry and a bit stale. Itís not bad though. Nice fruitiness, lots of honey. Decent.

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2014 Can: Yellow, slightly amber body with decent clarity & a mild chill haze. Foamy, white head that recedes to a ring quickly. Aroma is honey, dirt, earth, & a slight grassy hop tone. Flavor has a slight skunky quality with some honey, earthy & dirt-laden hops, mild must, slight citrus finish. Almost some DMS notes, with a big backbone of bread & yeast. More honey in the aftertaste. Nothing inherently terrible about it, but nowhere near worth what youíll pay for it.

Not a ton of flavor going on in this one. End taste and mouthfeel is filled with a ton of honey. Kind of nice to a point since I do really like honey. Overall though not the best.

Had on-tap at One-Eyed Bettyís in Ferndale, Michigan as part of a paddle. Appearance: The very definition of brown. No haze that I could tell, and just brown, brown, brown. A mini head was in my sample glass for a little while, but poofed away before too long. The lacing is somewhat patchy. Very good looking beer overall. Smell: Yeah, thatís a Biere de Garde. Iíve only had a couple, but this style has a distinctive smell to me... just a sort of funky/sour sort of apple smell. Musky. Really hard to describe, but itís really about what I tend to get from this style. Iíd have to guess that the main attribution to this smell/taste is the yeast. Taste/feel: Much like the smell. Thereís not much bitterness at all, but thereís a lot of that tart, sour flavor. This doesnít have nearly as much of that as youíd expect in a described "SOUR" beer, but it has a nice character to it. Aftertaste is apple-istic (yes, I made that up) with malt. Not the best of the few BdGís Iíve had, but itís still a tasty beer, for sure.

16 oz can courtesy of Doodler (thanks Scott) poured a hazy orange amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of honey, straw, light floral notes and light orange zest. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of straw, honey and light citrus with a smooth honey finish.

Can: The aroma consists of honey, Belgian yeast, faint apple, and floral notes. It pours a transparent golden-orange with a one finger off-white head that quickly fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. Thereís some thin lacing left behind on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with with a quick dose of honey and light Belgian yeast. The finish light floral notes, lemon peel, and a hint of spice. Itís light-medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation.

16 oz can picked up at the brewery (Grand Rapids, MI). Never seen this can before. Pours a deeper orange amber hue, good haziness, darker pour and hues overall. A bit of orange amber brighter glow on the edges and bottom. Frothy offwhite head atop dies to a decent film, laces ok. Aromas show clover, florals, and earthiness. A bit of honey, pollen, clover honey. Touches of bread, straw, more clover and earthy florals. Touch of herbal quality, some grainy and cereal elements. Gentle Belgian yeast, faint spice, earthy dry feel overall. Clover element is distinct. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, a decent carbonation. Some dryness, clover and earthy florals quickly meet a formidible bready and doughy malt body. Gentle honey, straw, cereal grain. Middle is a touch of fruit, apple and some dryness, a touch sticky. More honey fermented elements push on. Straw, grainy malt, and dough. Backend is a bit sticky, fermented honey really is a distinct element, especially the clover honey which preaches pollen, dryness, earth and florals. Backend is a touch sweet but still dry, earthy and floral. Clover, gentle spice, honey. A touch honey, certainly feels a bit more hot than itís actual ABV shows which certainly is different in my book. Itís not a bad beer, but it really offers a specific niche and flavor profile. Gentle apricot and fruity elements are really overrun. Dry, but still a bit girthy and sweet at times as well. Itís ok.

Golden to brown mostly clear pour with a half inch of white head. Scent is strong: sweet hay, sweet yeast, honey and very floral hops. Tart mouthfeel, very thin with average carbonation. Finish is very clean and on the dry side. There is an overall metallic and sour taste with this one. Great ale taste that has definite belgian yeast presence that plays more of a supporting role rather than being in your face. Some sour, rye-like notes too. I am a huge fan of Vivantís sour beers but I will definitely add this one to my list. Nice, easy-drinking ale.

Sweet and peppery with a hint of sulfur. Has a slight honey presence, a slight tartness, and pepper and bubblegum flavors from the yeast. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
