3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Taster on tap at HopCat in East Lansing. Moderately hazy, pale yellow white color. Little white head. Bits of lace. Medium body. Smooth, crisp, lighter tingly carbonation. More dry finish. Nice zesty orange and lemon peel, light spice, light breadiness. Good light tart taste, light sweet. Nice farmhouse ale, enjoyable.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Grand Rapids can. Seriously, why the lower ratings? This is a big, bold saison. An almost syrupy mouthfeel. A little funk and a little earthiness. Tasted good to me.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sample at Suds on the Shore festival. Golden pour with just the right amount of fruit sourness to make it a very pleasant, easy drinking saison

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap in Ann Arbor,MI.
Hazy yellow gold with a good bit of visible carbonation. Smallish head.
Easy drinking with only a touch of funk.
T: lightly yeasty and fruity flavor with a clear apricot note. Has a nice sweet/tart balance but clearly leans to the tart side.
O: refreshing and very drinkable version of the style with a good bit of complexity.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
16 oz can from the brewery (Grand Rapids, MI). Picked up a 4 pack of rates on the way out the door. Figured I’d start with this while I dump in ratings. Pours a stark yellow golden hue, gentle haze, decent carbonation. A loose bubbly whitish head stays as a small filmy layer, loose ring with ok lacing. Small and soapy. Aromas are a bit of apple, gentle lemony tartness. Some straw, gentle sourdough and bread. A bit of yeast, gentle sourness. Straw, grainy cereal elements, and some crisp gentle earthy florals. Initial is lighter end of the fold, a bit fruity up front. Some gentle earth, light lemon rind. Middle gets a bit more muddled. Doughy, gentle fruit, estery pear and apple. Some decent sweetness in there. Backend is a bit more dry, spicy. Some yeastiness, faint white grape. Grainy, dry finish comes into the fold, bread yeast. Runs the gambit. Solid, a touch underbodied.. and if it’s going to be that type of body, it’d be nice if it was more vibrant, light and sunny, without that more muddled sweet middle. Solid, if a bit forgetable.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Can. Golden colored with a fairly thick initial white head that quickly fades to a thin layer. The aroma shows tart lemons, grape, and an oak presence like you might find in a white wine. Tart and crisp flavors of white grape, lemon, a little grass, some white tea, and oak. Lightly hopped and light-bodied. The tartness is unexpected here; this tastes like a barrel-aged/soured saison. A little watery at times but still good and quite refreshing.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Cloudy straw with a full head that remains as a cover for the length of the drink, streaks of lace that drop back into the drink. Taste is typical of Brewery Vivant offerings: begins with wheat and malt, gives way to a sour fruit finish. I don’t know the brewery intentions, but sour fruit is evident in all styles I have sampled. It isn’t as offensive here as in some of the heavier brews, but I still consider it to be a distraction from what could be a palatable beverage.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
No thanks. Smells a little spicy and hay. Pours straw color with a white head. Taste is..... Hmmm.... eating straw with a hint of funk tied in, in other words, kind of like a bud aged on a bed of hay. I like the style, but this one didn’t deliver.
