COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Farm Hand: French Style Farmhouse Ale 5.5% abv 16 oz Becher glass There was a time in old world France when nearly every family farm had a brewery. A necessary part of farm life was to provide a ration of beer to sustain and nourish the laborers and beer was safer to drink than the water of the time. Farmhand is our interpretation of what these rustic beers must have been like. It is slightly cloudy from being made with raw un-malted grains a nd a simple single infusion mash procedure.

From sampler at brewery. Pale yellow cowl. Came to me with a thin ring of head. Aroma is of apples slightly spicy and dusty. Some graininess in taste from wheat. Mouthfeel is prickly with a little sour like quality. Overall refreshing with some character.

16oz can. Slightly hazy, light yellow color with a fizzy white head. Heavy grassy aroma. Grassy, lemon zest flavor. Close to the point of a sour finish causing the taste buds to pucker. Average carbonation with thin texture. Missed the mark for me as it didn’t have that sweet, funky yeast flavor I’ve enjoyed from similar styled ales.

Can. Nice citrus and hay aroma bur the flavor is pretty unexciting. Flat hay and barnyard with maybe a hint of citrus.

16 oz can from a recent trade. Falls a little flat and unassuming. Looks good but tastes not so much. Light yellow color with a big white head. Slight lemon and grassy hop flair but I mean very slight. Aroma is a little more apparent with a yeasty wildness. Finish is a touch bitter with some herbal notes.

A very mild aroma, yeast, malt, mild bananas. .. taste with some more spices... not bad for a mild beer

Outstanding Saison...wonderful barnyard and fresh cut straw flavors with a spritzy yeast nose, and a tart dry finish. Oh to be a French farm hand!

Pale yellow 1 finger creamy head. Nose is loaded with Saaz hops, a touch of pine needle and spicy french saison yeast. Hmmmm. Quite watery, a lot more spicy than I’d prefer a saison to be and slightly astringent at the finish. Falls short..maybe it’s to style but it would go well with a burger or a camping trip but I wouldn’t buy again. sorry guys.

16 oz. can from Binny’s, Lincoln Park. Seriously cloudy gold color with thin head in the snifter. Nose is lots of grassy hops and wheat. Flavor is mild with some yeast, mild spice and tart lemons. The body is light and flimsy. Texture is dry with a grassy finish. Not much Belgian character. This is a grocery store beer, drinkable but don’t buy a whole 4 pack of it.

16oz can in a tulip. Pours hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of spicy yeast, pale and cereal malts, and light hops. Flavor the same. Average texture. Nothing special. Also - This doesn’t affect my rating of this beer, but this has to be said. The craft beer industry has reached a sad state when microbreweries are sending cease and desist orders to other microbreweries. Focus on making a better beer instead of what breweries have beers that named similarly to yours. Is it jealousy that your recipe is not as good as their recipe? You’re not helping your beer sale more or anything. You’re only making people resent you. Make better beer, not lawsuits. Cheers bro.

This is a respectable saison although I think not one I would go back to. With so many other options in a tough market this one does not stand out enough. Even so a can or draft will introduce you to a well crafted distraction.

Aroma / Appearance - A bright golden base harbors traces of carbonation. Slightly spicy mud, dewy woods, and lemons meld with a yeasty foundation. Also present are the typical smells of fresh hay just laid down in a barn.

Flavor / Palate - The spice that dominates the first sip transitions to a lightweight bitterness after a few seconds. Next the yeastiness rises up to give it some nice depth. A laid back finish is gentle on the palate. This is actually a bit of a weakness as towards the end of the pint it gets to be forgettable. Overall though it has a nice consistency that merits at least one try.
