COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
If they brewed with pumpkins 200 years ago in Belgium this is what we think they may have tasted like. Upfront tartness followed with a spice note of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. Brewed with real pumpkin added to to the mash and kettle.

Silphium (2969) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - JAN 13, 2013

Draft at the brewpub, Grand Rapids. Slightly hazy medium red-brown body, medium cream head. Sourish pumpkin spice nose. Body like a cross between a pumpkin ale and a tart apple pie, with nutmeg, cinnamon, and Granny Smith apple peel. Grassy with tart and sweet elements, nicely balanced. Reminds me of New Glarus fruit beers, but with pumpkin. Yum.

At the brewery, orange pour, off white head. Lots of pumpkin aroma. Nutmeg and pumpkin dominate the taste, sweeter than anticipated, but good.
