From can in a snifter. Pours black sticking to the sides of the glass, with big brown head. Dark cherries, chocolate, molasses. Mouth feel is exquisite, very smooth, pouring over the tongue and lingering. Very slight alcohol in the back of the throat, chocolate, anise, cocoa, medium roast, banana. Very enjoyable.

Smells like toasty dark malts, chocolate, and Belgian yeast. Tastes sweet, medium bitter, and lightly sour. Smooth with medium carbonation, but not as thick as I would have expected. Flavors of chocolate, Belgian yeasts, hops, and citrus oils.

Can: The aroma consists of moderate chocolate, light molasses, banana, plum, roast, and some faint burnt notes. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a small tan head that fades to a thin film outlined by a thick ring. The flavor starts with moderate chocolate with a touch of banana. The finish has moderate plum, light-moderate roast, light alcohol, coffee, and a touch of metal. It’s medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation. Overall, the alcohol and metal combo in the finish definitely decrease my enjoyment of this beer.

Can. Deep opaque brown body, medium light brown head. Rich nose of chocolate, coffee, and raisin. Lots of dense malts; toffee and chocolate-covered nuts. I wrote nuts. Plummy and rich. Lots and lots of chewy toffee as the beer warms. Yum and delicious.

UPDATED: APR 26, 2015 Intense motor oil black pour with quarter inch of dark carmel brown head that dissipated into a thin whisp in short time. Dark sour fruits like fig, raisin, cranberry and current, as well as molasses, bourbon and rich milk chocolate all blend in the nose. Average, low carbonation for the style, viscous mouthfeel that’s oily, finish is clean and similar to post-coffee. Taste follows the nose, sour dark fruits, rich coffee, cocoa and molasses, nice fireplace roast taste on the finish. I still prefer their tart side of the moon and its aged sour uniqueness but this is an incredible imperial stout. Notes from can aged 10 months: nose is decidedly more full of balsamic vinegar, taste has more red wine similarities. Notes from can aged 18 months: deeper aroma, dark sour fruits like fig and currant, and rich bitter cocoa, the sourness is a bit more bitter and less complex in the flavor.

Can. Dark black with nice khaki head. Chocolate, malt and wood aroma. Smooth malty chocolate notes with nice body and palate. Excellent beer.

Dark chocolate brown beer wonderful head and great distinctive chocolate aroma. A hint of bourbon-like taste, but the chocolate influence carries through. Tastes wonderful.
