Formerly "Sgt Peppercorn Rye"
Great friends. Great food. Great beer. Relaxing at a meal together is the best part of our day. This beer is made for enhancing that experience. The flaked rye lends an earthy spiciness and the addition of green peppercorns into the boil kettle give a ping of peppery notes that will turn up the flavor of whatever dish you sit down to at your table. Add a friend or two and youíve got yourself a memorable evening.

Can. Pours clear amber with a thin white head. Aroma of malt, berry and esters. Malty flavor with trappist yeast accents along with banana and peach fruitiness before a sweet and slightly peppery finish.

16 oz. can, consumed on 4-27-16. Fresh, Belgian smell is good but not what I was expecting. Scents of cigar tobacco sweetness as well as citric tartness. Pours a clear bronze with a moderate effervescence and a large amount of beige head. Looks good. Belgian yeast dominate the flavor. Pepper dryness, especially in the finish. Pencil shavings. A bit of rye or pepper spiciness on the tongue. Sweetness: Cigar tobacco and peach. Alcohol flavor noticeable. Medium body. Unremarkable palate effects. Interesting and entertaining beer. I enjoyed it. It does get a bit tiring on multiple sips, costing it a point in the overall score.

Can. Pours a clear coppery gold with a very thin head and light aromas of apples and pepper. Iím not sure I would have picked up on the pepper without the claims on the label, however. Flavor is a kind of Belgian-y Apple thing with peppercorn showing up super late on the palate. Like a minute later and very very quietly. As is, itís a mediocre beer with the slightest hint of peppery intrigue.

Pours a copper color with a thin white head that disappears to nothing. Aroma is estery, pepper, earthy, and floral notes. Flavor is a twang of pepper, subtle rye, and some earthy flavors. Has a thin body. This is okay.

Pour on tap, slightly hazy golden pour with white head, aroma brought notes of white fruit, white grape, some pear into a bit of biscuit, bread, and toasted malts with some slight spice, touch of rye in with a hint of lemon. Taste was a mix of grass, earth, some rye into some lemon, white fruits, touch of grape with a hint of bread, finishing slightly spicy.

From a can into pint glass, golden yellow clear with big off white head that disappears fast. Nose is pepper, dough, ginger cookies, quite unique. Body is light and crisp with sweetness from start to finish. Some green pepper initially, brown sugar to finish. Unique beer, just not something I would go back to immediately.

16 oz can poured into pint glass Pepper in the rye pours a mostly clear light orange with a thin ivory head that doesnít last too long. The aroma is pretty mild with pepper and rye. The flavor is also fairly mild with pepper and rye standing out initially. A very nice caramel flavor compliments the beer in the finish. Overall this is a pretty average beer.

Can: Amber bodied, decent clarity with a soft, semi-soapy off-white head that quickly dissolves to a foamy ring. Aroma hits first with some slightly sweet & slightly tart apple & pear esters, mild earthy notes, a faint touch of toasted bread, & a hint of malt sweetness. Pretty light overall. Aside from the slight earthiness, I donít get much rye, & really no peppercorn at all. Flavor, however, has a decent amount of peppercorn & a touch of rye bread. Still, not spicy, though, just mildly earthy. Hints of light caramel malts, underdone toast, faint honey sweetness, & a small hint of apple in the finish. Rye gets stronger with warmth, some of those earthy tones linger. A decent beer, just a little boring.

Sampled from a can, this ale had a crystal clear gold amber pour and the pour made less than a fingers worth of a white cover and receded to a thin ring and a large island in the center, this drink looked very nice in the glass, the nose had aromas of light malt, faint rye bread, pear like fruit and a little spice with some candy sweetness, the pepper was faint and in the background, there were flavors of light toasted malt, bread, faint rye, and a little caramel in the background, again the pepper was faint, it had bread/malt sweetness, and a touch of spice after the finish, the mouth feel was light and creamy with average carbonation, a nice mix of light malt with rye and peppercorn, a nice drink.
