One of our most anticipated and highly talked about specialty releases, This hearty dark ale is fermented with our rustic Belgian yeast strain which gives the beer a farmhouse tartness followed by big dark chocolate notes, and hints of black cherries. Fermentation temperatures often climb past 90°F which builds the distinctive flavors. No adjuncts are added to this beer-- these robust layers of flavor are yeast driven. Listen to the lunatic.

While a little expensive the description and name made this beer a must purchase. The outcome was nothing short of world class. If you are fortunate enough to run across a can or draft don’t wait. This beer lives up to everything that Michigan beer is capable of.

Aroma / Appearance - A fluid chocolately brown base sweeps into the shaker. Sharp beige head is dense and oily. Bittersweet chocolate and rich malts linger with a sweet dessertlike profile. Velvety smooth, it blossoms over time.

Flavor / Palate - Tangy raspberries, chocolate, and a latent sharp tang burst onto the tongue with a sharp presence. Crisp and bright, it feels a bit like someone soured an imperial stout. If Brewery Vivant were my local I’d have no qualms about drinking it regularly.

Canned, 500ml, thnx to Secret Santa 2014/15. Pours an almost black beer with a small, creamy beige head on top. Aroma is tarty, licorice, chocolate and a faint Bretty funk note. Flavor is moderately sweet and sour, some notes of chocolate in there. Very subtle and fruity and overall good stuff.

Can from flandersned-thanks, Steve! Dark black with transparent clear ring, dark coffee crema head that fades quickly. Nose of dark burnt malts, sour dried. Dark and burnt malts, with good carbonation and sour red fruit. One of the better dark sours I’ve had.

16oz can poured into Trappist glass. Tart Side of the Moon pours a very dark purple to black with a pretty thin bubbly dark brown head that lasts just a little while. The aroma is molasses and dark fruit with a bit of chocolate. The flavor is molasses, dark fruit, chocolate, bread and licorice. Overall this is a pretty good brew.

Can @ Three Notch’d Tasting. Brown pour with a small head. Sort of soupy. Bizarre nose. Roasted grain with a strong herbal character. Bakers chocolate. Taste is pretty ashy. Tannic character. Very dry finish. More cocoa. Strange.

2015-01-12. Black body with a modest tan head. 3+ The aroma has sort of a blackberry like fruit character, toasty dark malt notes. Flavour is similar lightly toasty and tangy throughout. Average plus bodied palate, moderate carbonation. Solid but doesn’t quite elevate itself to the next level. Can shared by mds.

Un paquet de petits fruits macérés dans la menthe, le charbon, le cuivre bombardés de houblons astringents.
