4.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Limited run can. Pours deep black. Nose is coffee and granny smith apples. Taste is immidiate coffee followed by sour cherries and chocolate and hoppy bitterness, chocolate, hay, barnyard. The soir character is perfect. Amazingly played Brewery Vivant!

Tap at Clubhouse BFD. Pours black, tan head. Aroma is sour funk, cherry, dark fruit. I like it a lot. But the flavor is Belgian esters, dark fruit. Less sour funk. More sweet. Good.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Can:   Black, moderate foamy beige head, little to no lacing.   Roasted malt and somewhat citrusy
hop nose.   Warming up front, tart, roasty, a bit lemony, with a citrusy hop background.   Seems fairly
tart as it is creating that salivary response that very tart or sour ales tend to do.   It kinda reminds me of
a very tart or sour Black IPA.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Tart roasty finish.   I suppose its a
little musty, but also shows some campfire and ash.   Interesting beer overall, its like a tart Black IPA, with
a bit of mustiness.   Certainly unique.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
This poured a darker brown to black with a beige head. Aroma was of chocolate, dark fruit, roast, and metal. Flavor similar, disappointing given the name.

Deep brown color. No tartness whatsoever. Funk on top of roast. Not bad. Thanks BJ!

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
16 oz can thanks to Willrunforbeer. Dark brown color, fast dying head. Aroma starts with a good amount of roasty hints, mild Berry type hint and light smoke.
Flavor is an odd mix of smoke, with a sour grain base. Lacto bacteria type notes. Yeah, I guess the 90 plus degree fermentation really did some off the wall stuff to this brew. Personally I really don’t enjoy this brewery yeast strain. Just my taste, hard for me to enjoy this. I got to go against the grain here... Just not good at all.

16oz can. pours coca cola black with a beige head. Aroma is burnt, roasty, a hint of cherry. Flavor is dark chocolate, coffee, sour cherry. I’m not sure why they thought that fermenting this at 90 degrees was a good idea.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pour on tap, dark reddish black pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of dark fruit, cherry, raspberry, some nice lemony tart notes into a bit of roast, some molasses, dried fruit, candied fruit and caramelized sugars. Taste was a mix of molasses, dark fruit, rum soaked raisin into some slight woody, earthy notes into a bit of tart cherry, some berry, finishing slightly sweet, slightly tart. Pretty nice.

500 ml can
While a little expensive the description and name made this beer a must purchase. The outcome was nothing short of world class. If you are fortunate enough to run across a can or draft don’t wait. This beer lives up to everything that Michigan beer is capable of.
Aroma / Appearance - A fluid chocolately brown base sweeps into the shaker. Sharp beige head is dense and oily. Bittersweet chocolate and rich malts linger with a sweet dessertlike profile. Velvety smooth, it blossoms over time.
Flavor / Palate - Tangy raspberries, chocolate, and a latent sharp tang burst onto the tongue with a sharp presence. Crisp and bright, it feels a bit like someone soured an imperial stout. If Brewery Vivant were my local I’d have no qualms about drinking it regularly.

Canned, 500ml, thnx to Secret Santa 2014/15. Pours an almost black beer with a small, creamy beige head on top. Aroma is tarty, licorice, chocolate and a faint Bretty funk note. Flavor is moderately sweet and sour, some notes of chocolate in there. Very subtle and fruity and overall good stuff.
