4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at Jerry’s. Amber-gold with nice, foamy, off-white head, decent legs / Sweet, steely, floral nose of spun sugar, violet, banana, resin, citrus / Medium body, soft carbonation, mildly sweet & syrupy, surprisingly dry and hoppy, lightly astringent, and big bitter finish / Stylish, dry flavors of straw, honey, spun sugar, violet, with only notes of banana and citrus / One of those rare cases where the nose doesn’t match the body or flavor, but this dry, pilsner-like Belgian is well suited for the summer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sample at Brewery Vivant on 3/29/13. Pours clear amber with a thin off-white head. Aroma of malt, earthy hops, pepper and banana. Malty flavor with some sweetness and peppery character before a grassy hop finish.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a clear amber with a medium white head. Aroma has a very Belgian appeal to it, but it is more subdued than many of that style. It contains yeast, spice, banana, pine, and caramel. The taste has much of those Belgian impressions detected in the nose, being the yeast and spices, while it goes along with pine, caramel, and grapefruit underneath. Dry and bitter with a piney yeast aftertaste. Medium bodied, sticky in texture, with active, fizzy carbonation. I wasn’t so impressed by the blend of different styles here.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pint from a can into a shaker glass. Mainly pine in the aroma, some bitter fruit and grain too. Red tint, no head, no lacing. Taste was piney, dry, bitter, lack of sweetness, a little spicy and citrus hops. Palate was medium bodied, minor fizz, stilled, and the citrus, bitter hops left a resinous feel on my mouth. The beer would have been better if there was more sizzle to the carbonation level, and it didn’t feel so stilled and flat. It’s the first time I’ve seen Vivant distributed in the Chicago and I hope I come across their seasonal and high-end stuff soon.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a beautiful amber like a perfect belgian. Nose is very fruity, immidiately hit with that fruity flavor on the tongue, great belgian flavors and great long lingering bitterness at the finish, overall thier best year round beer and a great one at that.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Standard Market, Westmont. $4 in a 10 oz Solemn Oath tulip. My first encounter with Brewery Vivant. Clear IPA style amber/orange color under a foamy head. Citrus and pine hops in the nose. I just assume that a Belgian ale has aromatic malts to it, but this seems more like the satandard English PA malt, crisp, yet sturdy enough to showcase a happy hop profile. Plenty malty as most IPAs go, and that makes a pleasant difference.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
16 oz. can pours a hazy orange with big white head and a little lacing. Nose is that of a Belgian, rather than an American IPA: lots of spices, yeast, and pears. Aroma is the same, heavier on the fruits, spices and floral hops than on the the sweet malts, which are also present. Mouthfeel is sticky, and body is medium, with active carbonation (perhaps too much). A decent, distinctively Belgian-style IPA from a midwest brewer I had not tried before. Good but not great.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Body is a vibrant rustic golden color with a large amount of billowing carbonation.
The nose is pears and fruity yeast notes with a bit of earthy hops and citrus american hops.
bright and floral with more sweetness then bitterness all around. A light amount of citrus hops give a the only bitterness found, but the soft fruits of the belgian yeast overwhelm them.
low carbination, slightly creamy, and medium bodied.

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
This canned brew from a bottle shop poured a head of almost all foam finely sized off-white colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a softly carbonated transparent light orange colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The mild aroma was hoppy and dough. The bubbly mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The sharp flavor contained notes of dough and hops. A decent one that I would consider buying again.

[4608-20120708] 16floz can. Light grainy yeast aroma has a bit of a fruit note to it. Clear, orange amber body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. Sweet orange honeydew melon bitter hops flavour has a light grainy fruit finish. Medium body. Tasty, nice bitter fruit balance. (6/3/8/4/15) 3.6
