3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
330 ml bottle from ArtigianBeer served in nonic pint glass. Dark brown with a decent light beige head which doesn’t last very long, leaving no lacing. On the nose watered down coffee, cocoa powder, lots of vanilla and almost rhum notes, toasted malts and a mild hint of smoke. Good taste, silky smooth with the same coffee and chocolate notes, but with an interesting hoppy aftertaste. Nice and pleasent bitterness. Unfortunately, it’s way over carbonated, reducing the drinkability and the overall experience with this beer. It gets tolerable after a lot of swirling, but not satisfying enough. Medium body and oily texture, well masked alchool. So so.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at home. Pours dark brown, thin tan head. Rich aromas, roast coffee, treacle, wood. Lots of dark fruit on the taste and a light sourness which works really well. Surprised this wasn’t barreled at all. Good stuff.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Hazy fazed light brown, no head. Light oakiness, un-stewed laphsong smokiness. Oaky dryness, token smoked but very rich. Impressively imperial. Chunk oiliness, soft and peppery. Tight coffee bitterness on the finish. Vee nice.

330ml bottle from Hipo Beers. Almost black, good head. Resin coffee alcohol aroma. Toasted coffee flavour. Sour treacle alcohol aftertaste. Tasles like many of BrewDog’s strong beers. Not my thing.

UPDATED: MAY 11, 2014 Black beer, beautiful thick creamy beige head. Smells of roasted malts and coffee, taste is very rich with a pleasant sour finish. Slightly bitter palate with some coffee and chocolate. I couldn?t honestly tell the difference between an Imperial Porter like this and a Stout.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Oh, I like this one mainly for the complex and multilayered aroma of dark fruits, chocolate, coffee, toffee and caramel. I like how it changes when a drink changes temperature. Pours deep black with nice brown head. The taste is sweet, body is full, palate is very oily and sticky. You feel as if you were eating this beverage. Soft carbonation makes this beer very drinkable which in combination with 8.5% can end up really bad.
Nice slow sipper, I would pair it with carrot cake or with chocolate muffins.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2014 Svart med lavt skum. Aromaen er kaffe, mørk malt og vag sjokolade. Smaken er god balansert, her er kaffen fremtredende, med malt og sjokolade i bakgrunnen. Mild bitterhet i ettersmaken. Tykk konsistens.

Lovely black, dark tight tan head. Lovely soft roast. Taste also mellow roast, but finish has huge levels of liquorice. Dry earthy hops. Covers the alcohol well. It’s a very heavy roast, but not ashy. A big glass of this was not a problem. Chocolatey later.

Bottle from Yamaichi, a dark black pour with a thick creamy tan head into a snifter that leaves minimal lacing behind. The aroma is umami, chocolate and a herbal note almost mint like or peppery quite intriguing. Nice creamy silky full body & mouthfeel. The taste is roasty, milk chocolate with that same peppery quality & a touch of soy. Some warming, all in all a well made beer from Brewfist.
