Hand pumped cask at the brewpub in Whistler. Hazy orange, dense orange-tinted tan head. Caramel and earthy hop aroma. The palate delivers the same, along with a subtle apricot fruitiness and a moderately bitter finish. Low carbonation. A terrific ESB-- took home a growler!
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 tiggmtl (4516) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - OCT 23, 2007
Caramel, toffee and toasty malts in the nose with some floral hop character and fruity esters. Hazy burnished copper coloured body is topped by a dense, fine bubbled, off white head that coats the glass. Caramel malts are well balanced by floral and citrus hops that provide a moderate level of bitterness. Medium light body with subdued but entirely appropriate soft bubbled carbonation. Sampled on cash at Dix (Caskival 2007).

Copper colour with minimal off white head. Hoppy and spicy aroma with a tad of toffee. Nicely balanced with some hops and malts with a light oak. Bitter on the finish.

2nd annual Vancouver Caskival. Thin suspended yeasty chunks in a nice copper coloured beer with a thin white head. Aroma is a bit spicy, a touch of berry fruitiness and light caramel malt. Well-balanced flavour, light malt along with earthy and woody hops. Light spiciness as well. A bit of lingering bitterness. Very earthy finish. Nice bitter.

Sampled some of this in Whistler at the brewpub - the best of tasting: Unfiltered, great hop presence, fresh.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Malakin (466) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 13, 2004
Light amber in color with a sweet malty honeyish aroma. Some sweet malty honeyish flavours accompanied by some hoppyness and a bitter aftertaste.
2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 drismyhero (815) - Tacoma, Washington, USA - JUN 30, 2003
Unusual at best. It started off as though it was going to be bitter, but then decided to really just wallow in some sort of citutrusy funk for a while, never really producing much of any coherent flavors. Not too bitter, a sort of malty/muskyiness in the citrus held it back off the tongue. Like I said, unusual.

Despite some of the other ratings of this beer, I did not find it to be the least bit hoppy. It utterly failed to challenge me and was merely a mildly malty brew. Not that it was bad, but I had hoped for a tad more character.

This really hit the spot after a day on Whistler. Went great with my meal.
