3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jkwood04 (2286) - Connecticut, USA - MAY 14, 2013
22oz bottle in a stem glass. Pours very dark brown with a lacy, tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, grains, a little smokiness, and a light bitterness. Flavor about the same with a nice blend, but some off-notes as well. Average texture. An interesting beer, but something is just a little off about it.

Wow, this one has tons of roasted bitter chocolate, from the appearance and aroma to the flavor. Aroma is smoky as well. Pours murky dark coffee unclear with a cocoa beige head. Flavor is a ton of bitter roasted dark chocolate on a drier body.

22 oz bomber shared by AirForceHops. Black as night pour into a S.A. perfect pint glass. Nose of coffee grounds and dark chocolate bitterness. Something seemed a bit off and I had a hard time putting my finger on it. It took several small sips to realize that it was the rye that was confusing me. Rye gives this coffee porter a real unique flavor up front. Sweet lactose mildly present in the middle. Bitter finish. Lighter mouthfeel that I would have expected, but I needed to be reminded that this IS a porter and not a stout. Very interesting brew & thanks for sharing!

22 oz. bottle from Ryan and Casey’s for a price of $7.35. Shared with Phatdog1. Deep black thin a thin ring of tan head. Nose is rich with coffee and chocolate. Taste is a strange spicy rye in the center of the porter that can be found for the duration. Coffee grounds with a sharp bitterness toward the finish. The rye for sure gives this porter a different spin.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Leighton (6945) - London, ENGLAND - FEB 26, 2013
Bottle at Sander’s place, NYC. Pours deep brown with a thick, brown cream head. Nice coffee nose, light smokey roast, cocoa and dirt. Light to medium sweet flavor, earthy bitterness, bittersweet chocolate. Light bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Some dirty earth to finish, wet leaves, cocoa. So so. A little thin.

Pours black into an English pint. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to skim surface. Sweet roasted nuts and chocolate aromas. Creamy upfront with chocolate and roasted nuts turning dry in the lasting pumpernickel and espresso finish.

A well-made and nicely dry porter. Chocolate is mild and the rye gives a good long aftertaste. Not much else.
