COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In 1842 Josef Groll, the 'just hired' brewer in Pilsen, Bohemia, brewed a light golden lager with local malt, hops from Saaz, and yeast he had clandestinely brought along from his previous employer in Munich. A new classic was born by the name of Pilsner Urquell (German for the fountainhead of Pilsen). Whoever has tried it will remember it for its golden coulur, pronounced maltiness, assertive bitterness and intense Saaz hop aroma. Our interpretation ofths beer classic is this month's seasonal brew.

This was actually pretty good. Fresh and crisp tasting. Clear golden colour. Well balanced. I’d have this one again.

Single bottle purchased from Brewters Brew Pub on 11th ave SW in Calgary, AB on 02/24/2012. Colour: Medium yellow with low white head. Nose: Immediate mix of marshmellow and toffee, then settles into fresh dough without losing the background of sweetness. Taste: Medium sweet, medium-light bitter, light sour. Creamy and chewy. Caramel comes out with some munchable slightly roasted grains middle to late. Slightly too sweet for its type.

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2012 (First Taste, Brewster’s Century Park, Draught Pint, 5% ABV, Cellar Temp, 22/02/12. #2.)

Appearance (3/5): Clear and golden. Head is thin, white, and quickly diminishing with minimal lacing.
Aroma (5/10): Spicy and slightly earthy. I detected a note of blackberry.
Taste (5/10): Strong hops, lingering bitter finish.
Palate (3/5): Light, fresh, and dry.
Overall (11/20): A rich and fresh beer, although too dry and bitter for my tastes. This is one id like to re-rate soon.
Drinkability: 2/5. Character: 2/5. Buy Again: Probably No.

Pint on tap at Oliver Square location in Edmonton. Poured a pale golden color with small white head and some lacing. Aroma is cereal grains and some hops. Taste is lightly sweet malts and a dry hoppy finish. Not one of my favorites from Brewsters.

Czech pilsner poured a clear and pale golden color with a two finger frothy white head. Retention was long and plenty of sticky lacing was left on the glass. The aroma of is of malt and yeast with some grassy notes. The taste is predominantly of the floral Saaz hops and some bready malt. There is a little lemon in there as well. Although not complex the basics have been done well. The body is medium with medium to high carbonation. This would be an excellent beer for summer thirst.

Bottle, thanks to Cole. Pours clear yellow/gold, thin white head, lacing is spotty to good. Nose is earthy hops, nice spice notes and restrained florals; very light sweet corn/butter notes, but if I wasn’t so sensitive/picky about it, I doubt I’d notice. Flavour is sweet, with apples and grain, very spicy and pleasant, manages to be suitably spicy without being bitter in any sort of meaningful way. Lightly sour in the finish - not sure if I like the finish, although I really quite like the beer.
