2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Nuffield (3087) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - MAR 14, 2012
Slightly hazy, light yellow with a moderate head. Fruity aroma, with some honey, but a little floral, too. The flavor is thinner and elusive, but it has some original dimensions, staying well clear of most clearly established styles. Bottle from neighbor.
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 BVery (2541) - Burnsville, Minnesota, USA - DEC 17, 2011
Bottle. Very slightly hazy light yellow/gold pour with a large initial white head that fades to a small ring. Aroma is like a wit - wheat, spice, and light citrus. Medium to light palate. Taste is dank grass, mild spice....ugg, not really digging this one.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 GeneralGao (3545) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - JUN 20, 2011
Bottle. Poured a clear gold color with a thin white head. Smelled of bready pale malt and subdued grassy hop. Light to medium bodied and delicately sweet. Minimal bitterness emerged at the end. Pale malt, mineral-laden soda water, and grassy hop flavors.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 wlajwl (1789) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - MAY 28, 2011
Beery and slightly skunked aroma, the appearance was a lot paler than I was expecting, it looks more like a witbier. The flavor is simple, a little bit of sweetness balanced by some citrus. This wasn’t bad really, but as a whole this style is a little boring, although very sessionable.
2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 heemer77 (4792) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - FEB 2, 2010
Slightly hazy medium gold colored body with only wisps of a white head on top. The nose was grainy and bread like with only hints of leather and cherries. The taste was malted milk with some slight orange peel and lots of raw potato in the finish. There was a very strong mineral quality that annoyed me throughout. It largely tasted how I imagine a mineral block for livestock would taste if you licked it. Meh.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Ughsmash (5823) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 3, 2009
Thanks to Bob for the bottle! Poured clear, bright golden with a fluffy cap of white head. The aroma picked up honey, vanilla, and pale malts with faint earth around.. warmth brought out some toasted grains.. sweet and pleasant enough. The flavor had sweet, wet grains and honey at the core.. dusty earth and vanilla around.. sweet finish. Lighter-bodied with moderate-plus carbonation on the palate.. sweet to the extent that it masked crispness that the hops may have provided.. quite an easy drinker.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Skyview (4880) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - NOV 23, 2009
Picked up this beer at Hy-Vee Liquors in Waterloo, IA. Pours a clear golden pale colored brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates to a thin film top with no ring. No lacing. Aroma of some pre-skonk hops, probably from constant room light exposure. Other aroma after allowing to sit is golden grain malt, grassy hops, a hint of corn and some Ivory soap. Taste is light to medium bodied, average carbonation with some flavors of grassy hops, golden grain and corn. Finish is slightly dry at first, some crisp and then some grassy hop aftertaste with little bitterness. An average golden ale overall.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 GJF (1002) - Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA - OCT 19, 2009
Pours a murky gold with a rocky white head. There’s not a whole lot of body to it, but the flavor is refreshing, finishes dry with a light hop bite. Nice to have another Iowa beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Cletus (6064) - Connecticut, USA - AUG 13, 2009
Pours gold with a thin white head. Smells perfumy and toasty with some fruity hints. Tastes malt and sweet with some earthy hints and a perfumy finish.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 ekarmst (43) - Ames, Iowa, USA - JUL 27, 2009
Brown 12 oz bottle from Hy-Vee Wine and Spirits, Waverly, IA
The nose is of malt with slight floral, otherwise clean with no diacetyl or off aromas. Golden yellow hue, clear but not brilliant, soft white head falls quickly to form a nice tight lace. Flavor is malt oriented with hints of crystal. Just enough bitterness to maintain a slightly sweet flavor. No hop flavor. Malt dominates the finish with a slight fruitiness noticable. After taste is clean and malty. Mouth feel is a bit heavy while carbonation is adequate. A very smooth quaff. Overall, this is a pleasent and approachable gateway beer worthy of purchase. Quite enjoyable on a hot summer’s evening. While this is a decent blonde ale, the credit should go to the contract brewer, Sand Creek Brewing, Black River Falls, Wi. even if the recipe is Briar Creek’s.
