Bronzey-red with white lace highlights. Smooth and malty flavour with a touch of hops. With food, this one went ineluctably down the gullet no questions asked.

Draught @ Milestone’s as Palomino Honey Red - Nice color but lacked head, too sweet for its own good. Pleasant enough to drink, but only recommended for beer newbies or my wife.

Unfortunately, not in keeping with what I’ve come to expect from Brick. It does carry forth the Brick-typical absentee head, but this one also carries a somewhat unpleasing smell and far too much carbonation. I’ll go out on a limb and assume perhaps the place I tried it on tap - Big Daddy’s - had allowed it to age and become somewhat stale, but that’s not going to convince me to try it a second time. Flavour is mostly just carbonation, but you’ll find a bit of corn and grains alongside a tinge of honey. Sadly, I’ll recommend a pass.

I’m pretty sure this one isn’t retired completely, I had it at the rum runners pub last night in Kitchener. And it wasn’t all that horrible. Nice aroma with honey being very evident. The taste had sort of an unpleasant skunkiness to it, but other than that it was enjoyable.

Draft at the brewery. Slight sweet malty aroma. Only sweetness coming through in the flavour, bit honey and caramel.

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2005 On tap at the Dalby house. pumped out a light copperish amber...has the typical vacant Brick nose....no smell to speak of. Flimsy small head that collases quickly to a tiny ring...heavily carbonated. Has a mild bready malt taste but it is so weak you can just barely detect it...mild hopping, weak mouth feel ( except the fizzy carbonation blast that over powers any taste there is) the finish is interesting there is the smallest "bite" of citrusy honey..then a complete drop off. Like all the Brick beers lately this one is bland and hard to detect a character...they say they will be bottling this soon...yaaaa , can hardly wait...not! ----- update------ Well I finally had a chance to sample the final bottled product after Brick did consumer feedback and recipie tweeking for several months...the fist bottled offering was in a boxed Xmas set of a liter bottle of honey red and a Brick glass...the box promised "limited edition and some bottles signed by Jim Brickman, but as far as I was concerned I would be happy if the product had enough taste to qualify as a lager....if it was a complete bust, heck I can always use a good lager glass. ;-) Anyway, the final bottled product here was a bit of a surprise after the bland fizzy draft I tasted this spring. This bottled version has trimmed back the carbonation which makes it possible to actually taste the subtle flavors of this light, Honey flavored all malt lager. It was malty with good biscuit malts ( although the brewer is stingy with the malt), had light herbal hop profile and a detectable honey-citrus clean finish....it is still a watery beer with weak mouthfeel but at least in the bottled version you can taste the malts in it. Nothing special here but it is a light, pleasant unoffensive flavored all malt lager.

Draught at Milestone’s. As ’Palomino Honey Lager’. Pours a clear bubbly orange with an average size diminishing white head. Aroma’s mild and dull with sugar, light hops, somewhat fake honey and a hint of grain. Watery flavour of fake honey, grain, malt and only a hint of hops. Light to average bodied. I’ve had worse Canadian ’Honey’ beers, that’s for sure, but this is still pretty mediocre stuff.

UPDATED: MAY 7, 2004 (Draught) On tap at Yanks in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Pours a copper body and a thin, quick dissipating white head. Sweet malt nose. Somewhat watery flavour but IMHO better than many of the plain CARAMEL Reds out there. It was better than everything else on tap...
