On tap. Light amber color, off white head. Don’t call it red if it’s hardly golden. Very mild nose, hints of honey and malt. Sweet malt flavor, some fairly artificial honey and bready grains. Lighter bodied, short finish. Meh, the things I go through to try new beer.

Bottle shared with tiggmtl, Muzzlehatch and Olivier on 11/5/05. Pours a yellow-beige with a light auburn hue. Plenty of off-white head that is very quickly receding to a ring, creating no lacing. Aroma shows sryrupy sweet caramel, a faint whiff of veggies and maybe a touch of vanilla cream or buttercream. Flavor has light breadiness, but is mostly a sweet caramel and "honey" flavor. It’s not the worst honey flavor I’ve tasted in a honey beer, by far. The flavor, while not complex, and not really a real malted grains flavor, is actually discernable. The body is medium to medium-light and there is a bit of drying on the end, though the sticky sweetness never really leaves. Moderate to high carbonation, no true lager yeast notes, no alcohol apparency. Caramel color, corn syrup and a dollop of honey would not taste significantly different than this.

Tap at City Grill. Colour is caramel-amber - nothing even close to "red" - with a big head that quickly disappears. Aroma is really odd - some honey notes, but also this strange funkiness lurking in the background. There’s also some sediment in the bottom of the glass - infected, perhaps? Flavour is very mild, a bit of sweet malt and cloying fake honey, and a strange, almost sour aftertaste - again, maybe it was infected. I suppose I should try it again sometime to be sure, but I doubt my rating would be much higher anyway...

Draught at some bar across the street in Waterloo from Lion Brewery. Light red amber. Faint white head. Typical Brick aroma. Sweet malts. Pathetic sweet honey flavour. Poor body water sickening.

1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 MrManning (1982) - Hamilton, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 29, 2006
Tap at Moxie’s in London, Ont- It’s not really red first of all, but more of a light amber, almost dark yellow. A medium sized with froth sits a top. Mildly hoppy aroma with soapy and caramel aspects to it. Sweet corn and caramel flavours are teamed up with grains and a mild bitterness. About as expected.

1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 tiggmtl (4516) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 23, 2005
UPDATED: DEC 12, 2005 Original Rating (3-2-3-2-6=1.6): Clear amber brown body with low off white head that recedes to ring. Mild caramel and husky grains in the aroma and flavour. Sweet with very low bitterness. Medium light body with very strong carbonation. Clear bottle (Provigo, May-05) sampled with ClarkVV and muzzlehatch. Rerate (3-2-3-2-6=1.6): Butterscotch is quite strong in the aroma along with toffee and caramel. Clear amber-brown body is topped by a low, off white head that recedes to partial cover. Very sweet caramel along with plenty of butterscotch and no real bitterness to offset make this difficult to get through. Medium body is somewhat watery with initially strong carbonation that is unfortunately short lived. Sampled on tap at the Walper Hotel in Kitchener.
